Abiotic stresses, such as drought and salinity, lead to crop growth damage a decrease in yields. Stomata control CO 2 uptake optimize water use efficiency, thereby playing crucial roles abiotic stress tolerance. Hydrogen peroxide (H O ) is an important signal molecule that induces stomatal closure. However, the molecular pathway regulates H level guard cells remains largely unknown. Here, we clone characterize DST (drought salt tolerance)—a previously unknown zinc finger transcription factor...

Summary The waxy ( Wx ) gene of rice encodes a granule‐bound starch synthase (GBSS = protein) required for the synthesis amylose in endosperm. An analysis transcripts, protein, and content 31 cultivars revealed that endosperm protein contents are correlated with ability cultivar to excise intron I from leader sequence transcript. Cultivars high (group I) contain levels amylose, mature 2.3 kb mRNA. intermediate II) produce substantial amounts large 3.3 pre‐mRNA, still present, addition mRNA,...

Summary Young organisms have relatively strong resistance to diseases and adverse conditions. When confronted with adversity, the process of development is delayed in plants. This phenomenon thought result from rebalancing energy, which helps plants coordinate relationship between stress tolerance; however, molecular mechanism underlying this remains mysterious. In study, we found that miR156 integrates environmental signals ensure timely flowering, thus enabling completion breeding. Under...

Grain number and size are interactive agronomic traits that determine grain yield. However, the molecular mechanisms responsible for coordinating trade-off between these remain elusive. Here, we characterized rice (Oryza sativa) number1 (gsn1) mutant, which has larger grains but sparser panicles than wild type due to disordered localized cell differentiation proliferation. GSN1 encodes mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphatase OsMKP1, a dual-specificity of unknown function. Reduced...

Abstract Abiotic stress is the main factor negatively affecting crop growth and productivity worldwide. The advances in physiology, genetics, molecular biology have greatly improved our understanding of plant responses to stresses. Rice plants are sensitive various abiotic In this short review, we present recent progresses adaptation rice salinity, water deficit submergence. OsGBSSI, encoded by the Waxy (Wx) gene, is key enzyme in synthesis of amylose chains. Transgenic rice lines with various GBSSI activities were previously developed via site-directed mutagenesis Wx gene glutinous cultivar Guanglingxiangnuo (GLXN). In this study, grain morphology, molecular structure, and physicochemical properties investigated four transgenic modified OsGBSSI activity differences content. A milky opaque appearance was observed low- non-amylose grains due to air spaces starch...

Reproductive barriers perform a vital role during speciation. Hybrid weakness, the poorer development of hybrids compared with their parents, hinders gene exchange between different species at postzygotic stage. Here we show that two incompatible dominant loci (Hwi1 and Hwi2) involving three genes are likely to determine high temperature-dependent expression hybrid weakness in interspecific rice. Hwi1 comprises leucine-rich repeat receptor-like kinase (LRR–RLK) genes, 25L1 25L2, which...

Natural disasters, including drought and salt stress, seriously threaten food security. In previous work we cloned a key zinc finger transcription factor gene, Drought Salt Tolerance (DST), negative regulator of tolerance that controls stomatal aperture in rice. However, the exact mechanism by which DST regulates expression target genes remains unknown. present study, demonstrated Co-activator 1 (DCA1), previously unknown CHY protein, acts as an interacting co-activator DST. was found to...

Starch accounts for up to 90% of the dry weight rice endosperm and is a key determinant grain quality. Although starch biosynthesis enzymes have been comprehensively studied, transcriptional regulation starch-synthesis enzyme-coding genes (SECGs) largely unknown.
