The proliferative activity of tumors has been extensively investigated with different approaches, among which the use monoclonal antibody Ki-67 represents an easy and reliable means assessing cell proliferation. In this study, 129 primary breast cancers was investigated, results were related to prognosis.Tumor samples, obtained from patients who underwent surgery between January 1987 December 1988, processed for staining by immunohistochemical procedure (avidin-biotin complex). median time...

The survival rates of 90 patients who underwent operation for bronchogenic carcinoma were analyzed statistically according to sex, age, tumor stage and histologic type, types surgical procedures (lobectomy or pneumonectomy), immunomorphologic parameters immnologic activity in peribronchial hilar lymph nodes. Stage I group survived significantly longer than did the II III groups, lobectomized pneumonectomized patients. absence presence node metastases was one major determinants survival. mean...

The effects of different slaughter weights (W) and sex (S) on carcass traits longissimus dorsi meat quality (pH, WHC, colour, cholesterol collagen) Casertana pigs were studied. Thirty-six pure breed pigs, 24 barrows (B) 12 gilts (G), evaluated in a 2x2 factorial design involving live (L, 125.6 kg; H, 152.5 kg) S (B G). H had higher weight (P<0.01), dressing percentage (P<0.05), ham yield (+ 7.9 %; P<0.01), lean cuts (P<0.01) backfat thickness (+13.3%; P<0.05), lower loin fatty cuts. W did...

To compare growth, skeletal development, carcass traits and meat quality of different genotypes, 10 Casertana (CT), Italian Large White (LW) Duroc x (Landrace White) (DU) crosses, barrows 90 days age, were allotted to the same outdoor rearing feeding conditions. Live weight was recorded average daily gain (ADG) calculated. At slaughter (330-day-old) dressing lean percentages determined; backfat thickness loin eye depth measured. Carcasses dissected into commercial cuts. Water holding...

The effects of different prefreezing semen concentrations on post-thawing quality turkey cryopreserved with the pellet method were investigated. Ten pooled samples each divided into 6 subsamples and diluted Tselutin extender to obtain a final concentration 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4 5x109/mL respectively. Subsamples cooled, added 8% dimethylacetamide as cryoprotectant and, after 5 minutes equilibration, seminal aliquots 80 μL directly dropped liquid nitrogen bath form frozen pellets. Thawing was...

In the past few years there has been an increasing interest in animal products originating from rearing systems that could be considered ‘natural’ or ‘traditional’, and niche market opportunities are available for pork produced with socially-acceptable assurances. Nevertheless, research comparing effects of housing (outdoors vs indoors) on tenderness yielded conflicting results, perhaps due to geographical location, climate genotypes evaluated (Beattie et al., 2000; Gentry 2001; Guy Edwards, 2001)...
