Determining gait speed as a measure of physical performance is recommended in diagnosing sarcopenia. Gait measurements require certain amount space (e.g. 6-m course), and might not be feasible clinical settings or heath checkup examination sites. The infrared spectra of some thiohydroxamic acids (I) and their deuterated compounds were investigated compared with those O-methylthiohydroxamic (II). It was concluded that I exist in thione-form the solid state but both thiol thione tautomers liquid or solution, which polar solvents favor former tautomer, whereas II occur thiol-form all states. These facts more positively confirmed by NMR determinations pKa values. "N-C=S bands" assigned to regions 1550±20, 1340±30 1085±5cm-1.

Background There are relatively few studies about the antiproliferative effects of codeine-related compounds on human cancer cell lines, compared with those morphine-related compounds. The authors previously found that codeinone, an oxidation metabolite codeine, among 10 opioids, showed highest cytotoxic activity (DNA fragmentation-inducing activity) against promyelocytic leukemic lines (HL-60). This was counteracted by antioxidant, N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC). These findings prompted us to...

Reactivities of thiohydroxamic acids (I) and O-methylthiohydroxamic (II) with metal ions are studied. It was found that the behaviors I resemble those hydroxamic rather than II or other reagents including mercapto group. Namely, react Fe(III), Ti(IV), UO2(II), VO(II) which show characteristic color reaction acid, furthermore gave Fe(III) Cu(II) salts without any changes valencies, differing from II. Some properties isolated transition indicated these have probably chelate structures.
