Abstract We create a culture dictionary using one of the latest machine learning techniques—the word embedding model—and 209,480 earnings call transcripts. score five corporate cultural values innovation, integrity, quality, respect, and teamwork for 62,664 firm-year observations over period 2001–2018. show that an innovative is broader than usual measures innovation – R&D expenses number patents. Moreover, we correlates with business outcomes, including operational efficiency,...
Grounded in the upper echelons perspective and stakeholder theory, this study establishes a link between CEO hubris corporate social responsibility (CSR). We first develop theoretical argument that is negatively related to firm's socially responsible activities but positively its irresponsible activities. then explore boundary conditions of effects how these relationships are moderated by resource dependence mechanisms. With longitudinal dataset S&P 1500 index firms for period 2001–2010, we...
Using a sample of completed U.S. acquisition deals over the period 1984–2014, we find that acquirer organization capital as measured by capitalized selling, general, and administrative (SG&A) expenses is associated with superior deal performance. We show high organization-capital acquirers achieve significantly higher abnormal announcement returns, better post-merger operating stock performance, than low acquirers. Additional tests suggest causal relation between further post-merger, cut...
Abstract Stem cells are promising for the treatment of myocardial infarction (MI) and large animal models should be used to better understand full spectrum stem cell actions preclinical evidences. In this study, bone marrow mesenchymal (BM-MSCs) were transplanted into swine heart ischemia model. To detect glucose metabolism in global left ventricular myocardium regional myocardium, combined with assessment cardiac function, positron emission tomography-computer tomography (PET-CT) magnetic...
AimsTo investigate whether Atorvastatin (Ator) treatment improves the cardiac micro-environment that facilitates survival and differentiation of bone-marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) implanted in post-infarct myocardium.
ABSTRACT When a firm issues management forecast, analysts who have observed more forecasts from this since covering it (i.e., MF-Experience) subsequently improve their own accuracy and provide timelier earnings for other (non-issuing) firms in the same industry. We also find that, subsequent to investors are responsive forecast revisions non-issuing made by with MF-Experience. Further tests suggest that our results not explained endogeneity coverage. Data Availability: commercially available.
Background In a swine model of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), Statins can enhance the therapeutic efficacy mesenchymal stem cell (MSCs) transplantation. However, mechanisms remain unclear. This study aims at assessing whether atorvastatin (Ator) facilitates effects MSCs through activation nitric oxide synthase (NOS), especially endothelial (eNOS), which is known to protect against ischemic injury. Methods and Results 42 miniswines were randomized into six groups (n = 7/group): Sham...
This study explores the implications of interfirm status differentials for firm behaviors in corporate takeover transactions. We argue that more differential between two firms is aligned with expectations their roles embedded specific economic activity, easier it them to agree on appropriate means reach consensus transaction. Using empirical context U.S. market, we found greater an acquirer and a target, positively market reacts both target upon announcement acquisition deal, likely deal be...
We provide large-scale empirical evidence of how much chief executive officers (CEOs) change corporate culture. To do this, we use employee reviews to measure cultural in S&P 1500 firms. In a variance decomposition analysis, find modest effect CEOs on change. The is larger than industry but smaller firm effect. Regression analysis the context CEO succession further shows consistent addition, relationship between and not likely be fully explained by time trend, reverse causality, sample...
Creatinine-to-albumin ratio (CAR) has been recognized as a predictive indicator in the postoperative setting. However, its relationship with outcomes patients receiving cardiac surgery remains elusive. This study aimed to discuss link between CAR and 28-day mortality admitted intensive care unit (ICU) following surgery, hoping provide some insights for targeted interventions improvement of patient outcomes. MIMIC-IV database was searched obtain data ICU surgery. Retrieved were split into...
Background Ferroptosis of kidney tubular epithelial cells contributes to the pathogenesis diabetic disease (DKD). An increase in enzyme long-chain fatty acid CoA ligase 4 (ACSL4) favors ferroptosis. However, association between ACSL4 renal tubules and outcomes patients with DKD is unknown. Methods To investigate predictive property rapid function decline DKD, a retrospective cohort 72 biopsy-proven were enrolled followed up for median 23 months. Tubular expression levels biopsy specimens...
Scintigraphic myocardial perfusion imaging is the most widely used noninvasive modality for detection of coronary artery disease (CAD). A technique direct exercise-induced ischemia highly desirable and preferable over but presently unavailable. We evaluated feasibility diagnostic accuracy with fluorine-18-2-deoxyglucose (18FDG).Twenty-six patients known or suspected CAD no prior infarction underwent simultaneous after intravenous injection Tc-99m-sestamibi (99mTc-sestamibi) 18FDG at peak...
Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) accounts for 20% of non-melanoma skin cancer worldwide. MicroRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) are a subtype non-coding RNA associated with the progression various types human cancer. MiR-186 has been demonstrated to act as an oncogene in tumors. However, role miR-186 cSCC remains unclear. The expression and apoptotic protease activating factor 1 (APAF1) was examined using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction, western blotting...
ABSTRACT We study environmental and social (E&S) disclosures in annual reports. Using the word embedding model to examine over 210,000 reports from 24,271 public firms 30 international countries/regions between 2001 2020, we create an E&S dictionary that allows us document trends report disclosure. Specifically, find: (1) increases length boilerplate language (2) decreases specificity. Our results also suggest disclosure quality improves after adoption of voluntary ESG reporting...

Our results also suggest disclosure quality improves after adoption...
Abstract Intracoronary injection of the bone marrow‐derived mononuclear cells (MNCs) is emerging as a potentially novel therapy for ischemic heart failure. This study was aimed at assessing efficacy intracoronary MNC delivery in myocardium. The vivo distribution and myocardial homing intracoronarily delivered MNCs experimental Chinese swine with acute infarction (AMI) created by occlusion left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery 90 min. radiolabeled 18F‐fluoro‐deoxy‐glucose (18F‐FDG)...
The aim of this study was to explore the clinical value porcine acellular dermal xenograft (ADX) in combination with autologous split-thickness skin and pure grafting applied deep full-thickness burns scar wounds. A total 30 patients were randomly divided into experimental control groups following escharectomy. separately treated graft. wound healing observed routinely scores evaluated using Vancouver scale at different times transplant surgery. samples cograft regions group (pure autograft)...
