Abstract In December 2013, during a Zika virus (ZIKV) outbreak in French Polynesia, patient Tahiti sought treatment for hematospermia, and ZIKV was isolated from his semen. transmission by sexual intercourse has been previously suspected. This observation supports the possibility that could be transmitted sexually.

Abstract Metagenomics revolutionized the understanding of relations among human microbiome, health and diseases, but generated a countless number sequences that have not been assigned to known microorganism 1 . The pure culture prokaryotes, neglected in recent decades, remains essential elucidating role these organisms 2 We recently introduced microbial culturomics, culturing approach uses multiple conditions matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization–time flight 16S rRNA for identification...

Zika virus (ZIKV) is an emerging arthropod-borne (arbovirus) belonging to the family Flaviviridae and genus Flavivirus. ZIKV was first isolated from a monkey in forest of Uganda 1947 [1Kirya BG A yellow fever epizootic Forest, Uganda, during 1972: Part 1: isolation sentinel monkeys.Trans R Soc Trop Med Hyg. 1977; 71: 254-260Abstract Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (31) Google Scholar]. Since October 2013, French Polynesia has experienced the largest documented outbreak of Zika virus (ZIKAV) infection. To prevent transmission ZIKAV by blood transfusion, specific nucleic acid testing donors was implemented. From November 2013 to February 2014: 42 (3%) 1,505 donors, although asymptomatic at time donation, were found positive for PCR. Our results serve alert safety authorities about risk post-transfusion fever.

Abstract During 2013–2014, French Polynesia experienced an outbreak of Zika virus infection. Serosurveys conducted at the end and 18 months later showed lower than expected disease prevalence rates (49%) asymptomatic:symptomatic case ratios (1:1) in general population but significantly different (66%) (1:2) schoolchildren.

BACKGROUND Zika virus (ZIKV) is an arthropod‐borne (arbovirus) transmitted by mosquitoes. The potential for ZIKV transmission through blood transfusion was demonstrated during the outbreak that occurred in French Polynesia from October 2013 to April 2014. Pathogen inactivation of products a proactive strategy provides reduce transfusion‐transmitted diseases. Inactivation arboviruses amotosalen and ultraviolet A (UVA) illumination previously chikungunya, West Nile, dengue viruses. We report...

French Polynesia is a high epidemic/endemic area for arthropod-borne viruses (arboviruses). We recently reported the silent circulation of Ross River virus and absence active transmission chikungunya (CHIKV) among blood donors sampled before emergence Zika (ZIKV) CHIKV in Polynesia. In this study, prevalence four serotypes dengue (DENV) occurrence other arboviruses were investigated Polynesia.Serum samples from 593 collected between July 2011 October 2013 tested by ELISA presence...
