Wood-feeding lower termites harbour symbiotic gut protists that support the termite nutritionally by degrading recalcitrant lignocellulose. These themselves host specific endo- and ectosymbiotic bacteria, functions of which remain largely unknown. Here, we present draft genomes a dominant, uncultured ectosymbiont belonging to order Bacteroidales, 'Candidatus Symbiothrix dinenymphae', colonizes cell surface cellulolytic Dinenympha spp. We analysed four single-cell Ca. S. dinenymphae, highest...
Both hydropower dams and global warming pose threats to freshwater fish diversity. While the extent of may be reduced by a shift towards energy generation large in order reduce fossil-fuel use, such profoundly modify riverine habitats. Furthermore, posed will interact: for example, constrain range adjustments fishes that might compensate temperatures. Evaluation their combined or synergistic effects is thus essential adequate assessment consequences planned water-resource developments. We...
The candidate phylum ‘Termite Group 1’ (TG1) of bacteria, which is abundant in termite guts but has no culturable representative, was investigated with respect to the situ localization, distribution, and diversity. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analyses FISH guts, a number lineages TG1 members were identified as endosymbionts variety gut flagellated protists from orders Trichonymphida, Cristamonadida, Oxymonadida that are mostly unique termites. However, survey various environments using...
Rs-N31, a 16S rRNA phylotype affiliated with the genus Desulfovibrio, has frequently been detected from gut of wood-feeding termite Reticulitermes speratus. In this study, we designed probe specifically targeting Rs-N31 and performed fluorescence in situ hybridization to identify corresponding cells. The signals were exclusively inside cells flagellate Trichonympha agilis, which simultaneously harbours another intracellular bacterium belonging candidate phylum Termite Group 1 (TG1). coccoid...
The flagellate Caduceia versatilis in the gut of termite Cryptotermes cavifrons reportedly propels itself not by its own flagella but solely ectosymbiotic bacteria. Previous microscopic observations have revealed that motility symbionts are flagellated rods partially embedded host cell surface and that, together with a fusiform type bacteria without flagella, they cover almost entire surface. To identify these ectosymbionts, we conducted 16S rRNA clone analyses physically associated cells....
The microbial community in the gut of termites is responsible for efficient decomposition recalcitrant lignocellulose. Prominent features this are its complexity and associations prokaryotes with cells cellulolytic flagellated protists. Bacteria order Bacteroidales involved a wide variety protist species as either intracellular endosymbionts or surface-attached ectosymbionts. In particular, ectosymbionts exhibit distinct morphological patterns associations. Therefore, these symbionts provide...
Summary Many reports have stated that flagellated protists in termite guts harbour ectosymbiotic spirochetes on their cell surface. In this study, we describe another bristle‐like ectosymbiont affiliated with the order Bacteroidales . The 16S rRNA phylotype Rs‐N74 predominates among clones obtained from gut of Reticulitermes speratus An phylotype‐specific probe was designed study and used for detection corresponding bacteria by fluorescence situ hybridization (FISH) analysis. Surprisingly,...
The mechanisms of cancer cell growth and metastasis are still not entirely understood, especially from the viewpoint chemical reactions in tumours. Glycolytic metabolism is markedly accelerated cells, causing accumulation glucose (a reducing sugar) methionine (an amino acid), which can non-enzymatically react form carcinogenic substances. There speculation that this reaction produces gaseous sulfur-containing compounds tumour tissue. aims study were to clarify products investigate their...
Investigation of microbial interspecies interactions is essential for elucidating the function and stability ecosystems. However, community-based analyses including molecular-fingerprinting methods have limitations precise understanding interactions. Construction model consortia consisting defined-mixed cultures isolated microorganisms an excellent method research on In this study, a consortium that convert acetate into methane directly (Methanosaeta thermophila) syntrophically...
Abstract The profile of a river that conveys sediment without net deposition and erosion is referred to as ‘graded’ with respect vertical aggradation the segment. Three experimental series, designed in terms autostratigraphic view alluvial grade, were conducted clarify diagnostic spatial behaviour graded alluvial–deltaic rivers: an ‘R series’, which utilized moving boundary setting stationary base level; ‘F series’ fixed level produce ‘forced grade’; ‘M constant base‐level fall ‘autogenic...
The voltage-induced magnetization switching with the long tolerance of voltage-pulse duration (tp) is theoretically investigated. This method does not require to be turned off at around half-period precessional motion magnetization, and it can realized by energy dissipation through damping torque. Numerical simulations show that this applicable in perpendicularly magnetized free layer room temperature. results provide a for designing voltage-controlled MRAM which ensures reliability writing...
This paper introduces the web application-type Graphical User Interface that has been developed and also presents an application example. The introduced simulator conducts hydrodynamics ecosystems in coastal estuarine areas. It consists of (1) a hydrodynamic model can simulate current velocity, water temperature, salinity, level; (2) ecosystem dissolved oxygen, phytoplankton, zooplankton, nutrients, fish, bivalves; (3) benthic elution. Web GUI is first system aquatic environment simulation...
In this study, which was conducted to investigate present-day geological deformations occurring off the central Ryukyu Arc along Trench (Okinawa-jima) in vicinity of Japan, we obtained and examined dense, high-resolution, 2D grid (high-density) multichannel seismic reflection data. The forearc slope lacks a large basin but has steep narrow that dips southeast direction opposite plate convergence. However, while profiles our investigation do not reveal any active structures indicative...
Glass vial tests were conducted to quickly screen nutrient mixtures for microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR). Common nutrients, such as food grade milk, applied 190 cultivation experiments. Five of the used in glass showed no hydrogen sulfide (H2S) production. These five then assessed a core flooding test. Four an increased 10%, without H2S Thus, test was useful screening through multiple before analysis

Abstract Sandy shelf sediments are important elements of clastic sedimentary systems because their wide distribution in the geological record and significance as hydrocarbon reservoirs. Although many studies have investigated influenced by waves or tidal currents, little is known about oceanic particularly lithofacies characteristics stratigraphic evolution. This study evolution off Kujukuri strandplain facing Pacific Ocean, which strong Kuroshio Current. Sediment cores were obtained from...
