Abstract Background The clinical diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD) requires the presence parkinsonism and supportive criteria that include a clear dramatic beneficial response to dopaminergic therapy. Our aim was test diagnostic criterion by evaluating its association with pathologically confirmed diagnoses in large population parkinsonian patients. Methods We reviewed data maintained an electronic medical record from all patients autopsy who had been seen Movement Disorders Center at...

We have applied optical-resolution photoacoustic microscopy (OR-PAM) for longitudinal monitoring of cerebral metabolism through the intact skull mice before, during, and up to 72 hours after a 1-hour transient middle artery occlusion (tMCAO). The high spatial resolution OR-PAM enabled us develop vessel segmentation techniques segment-wise analysis cerebrovascular responses.

Histoplasmosis commonly presents as an asymptomatic or self-limited infection in immunocompetent patients, but immunocompromised hosts may present with severe and disseminated disease. Herein, we a 26-year-old male history of ulcerative colitis receiving long-term TNF-alpha inhibitor therapy who presented six months diarrhea recently fever hematochezia. On admission, he was febrile hypotensive, initial workup revealing pancytopenia imaging reporting pulmonary infiltrates, pancolitis,...

We developed multi-contrast photoacoustic microscopy (PAM) for in vivo anatomical, functional, metabolic, and molecular imaging. This technical innovation enables comprehensive understanding of the tumor microenvironment. With PAM, we longitudinally determined vascular anatomy, blood flow, oxygen saturation hemoglobin, extraction fraction.

The COVID-19 pandemic has strained hospital resources.1 Optimal timing of noninvasive respiratory support versus invasive mechanical ventilation not been elucidated. Beginning September 2020, Mayo Clinic allowed early initiation high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) on the general care floor for adult patients with to mitigate strain. We hypothesized that this policy will stratify who are safe continued from those warrant ICU-level and intubation. ### Subjects A retrospective analysis 22,330 rapid...

Studying oxygen metabolism during brain ischemia has been limited by imaging modalities that have either low resolution but good tissue penetration, or high requiring invasive preparations (open-skull windows). Here, we report a study of cerebrovascular in mouse focal using novel minimally invasive, high-resolution technique known as optical-resolution photoacoustic microscopy (OR-PAM). Using OR-PAM, serially imaged cortical vessels through the intact skull Swiss Webster mice (n=3) before,...

Introduction: Peak oxygen uptake (VO 2peak ), as determined by cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), is informative of cardiovascular fitness and heart failure (HF) disease progression. Due to their clinical meaningfulness, many patients with HF undergo multiple CPETs throughout lifetimes. However, a gap in knowledge exists regarding the prognostic value longitudinal changes VO for mortality risk. The aim this study was investigate whether trajectories are predictive among HF. Methods:...

Introduction: Ventricular storms are managed with a combination of antiarrhythmic drugs (AAD) and ablation therapy. This study examines outcomes in patients who required cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) admission for ventricular storms. Methods: A retrospective cohort was conducted 200 random adult admitted to the CICU at Mayo Clinic Rochester 2016-2017 storm. Continuous variables were analyzed Mann-Whitney U test. Categorical Fisher's exact Results: Of patients, 33 (16.5%) underwent AAD...

Introduction: Ventricular arrhythmias, including ventricular tachycardia (VT) and fibrillation (VF), are associated with high mortality morbidity. Sedation through agents like benzodiazepines, propofol, opiates mainstays of treatment but limited by side effects. Dexmedetomidine is a α2-presynaptic receptor agonist safe efficacious sedative profile. Furthermore, it has been recently proposed as agent in VT due its additional antiarrhythmic properties. Methods: A systemic literature review was...
