We find that firms protected by “second generation” state antitakeover laws substantially reduce their use of debt, and unprotected do the reverse. This result supports recent models in which threat hostile takeover motivates managers to take on debt they would otherwise avoid. An implication is legal barriers takeovers may increase corporate slack.

The observation of neutrino oscillations is clear evidence for physics beyond the standard model. To make precise measurements this phenomenon, oscillation experiments, including MiniBooNE, require an accurate description charged current quasielastic (CCQE) cross sections to predict signal samples.
