A precise measurement of the atomic-mass dependence dimuon production induced by 800-GeV protons is reported. Although much attention has been given to the physics of a microwave glow discharge, substantially less information is available regarding chemical effects upon gas undergoing such excitation. We have studied 2450-Mc/sec discharge on several gases and made quantitative measurements few simple molecular systems, e.g., N2, H2, O2, air, CH4. A fundamental relationship found exist between yield in systems controllable variables electric field strength, contact time, pressure. Analytical...

We report an analysis of the nuclear dependence yield Drell-Yan dimuons from 800 GeV/c proton bombardment 2H, C, Ca, Fe, and W targets. Employing a new formulation process in rest frame nucleus, this examines effect initial-state energy loss shadowing on nuclear-dependence ratios versus incident proton's momentum fraction dimuon effective mass. The resulting per unit path length is -dE/dz = 2.32+/-0.52+/-0.5 GeV/fm. This first observation nonzero partons traveling environment.
