We report on an Ebola virus disease (EVD) survivor who showed in seminal fluid 531 days after onset of disease. The persisting was sexually transmitted February 2016, about 470 symptoms, and caused a new cluster EVD Guinea Liberia.
Although central nervous system–resident microglia are believed to be ineffective at phagocytosing and clearing amyloid-β (Aβ), a major pathological hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), it has been suggested that peripheral myeloid cells constitute heterogeneous cell population with greater Aβ-clearing capabilities. Here, we demonstrate the conditional ablation resident in CD11b-HSVTK (TK) mice is followed by rapid repopulation brain peripherally derived cells. We used this system directly...
Deposition of aggregated Aβ peptide in the brain is one major hallmarks Alzheimer's disease. Using a combination two structurally different, but related, hypersensitive fluorescent amyloid markers, LCOs, reporting on separate ultrastructural elements, we show that conformational rearrangement occurs within plaques transgenic mouse models as animals age. This important mechanistic insight should aid design and evaluation experiments currently using plaque load readout.
ABSTRACT The family Bunyaviridae is the most diversified of RNA viruses. We describe a novel prototypic bunyavirus, tentatively named Gouléako virus, isolated from various mosquito species trapped in Côte d'Ivoire. S segment comprised 1,087 nucleotides (nt), M 3,188 nt, and L 6,358 constituting shortest bunyavirus genome known so far. virus had shorter termini than phleboviruses showed no evidence encoded NSs NSm proteins. An uncharacterized 105-amino-acid (aa) putative open reading frame...
Abstract Background Multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae spp. (kp) are emerging agents of severe infections the respiratory, urinary tract and wounds that can progress to fatal septicemia. The use bacteriophages is currently being considered as an effective alternative or adjuvant antibiotic therapy. Results In this study, we report capsule (K)-typing 163 carbapenem-resistant Kp (CRKP) isolated 2014–2018 at Military Hospital Instruction Tunis (MHT), Tunisia, by partial amplification...
Real time in vivo detection of Amyloid β (Aβ) deposits at an early stage may lead to faster and more conclusive diagnosis Alzheimer's disease (AD) can facilitate the follow up effect therapeutic interventions. In this work, capability new hybrid nanomaterials target detect Aβ aggregates using magnetic resonance (MRI) fluorescence imaging is demonstrated. These smart contrast agents contain paramagnetic nanoparticles surrounded by luminescent conjugated oligothiophenes (LCOs) known...
Carbapenem-resistance is frequently detected in Enterobacteriaceae isolated from patients Tunisia. The study was performed to identify frequent carbapenemases Tunisian isolates.Between May 2014 and January 2018, 197 ertapenem-resistant were at the microbiological department of Military Hospital Tunis. strains phenotypically characterized then subjected in-house polymerase chain reaction (PCR) targeting carbapenemase genes blaIMP, blaVIM, blaNDM, blaSPM, blaAIM, blaDIM,blaGIM, blaSIM, blaKPC,...
The rapid spread of SARS-CoV-2 clearly demonstrated the potential zoonotic diseases to cause severe harm public health. Having limited access medical care combined with underreporting and a lack active surveillance, Africa carries high burden neglected diseases. Therefore, epidemiological monitoring pathogen circulation is essential. Recently, we found extensive Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) prevalence in free-roaming dromedary camels from southern Tunisia. In this...
Abstract In the present work, two complete genome sequences of SARS-CoV-2 were obtained from nasal swab samples Tunisian PCR-positive patients using nanopore sequencing. The virus genomes examined, a soldier returning mission in Morocco and member another family, showed significant differences analyses total single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Phylogenetic relationships with known African region, some European Middle Eastern countries initial epidemiological conclusions indicate that...
Abstract Free-roaming camels, especially those crossing national borders, pose a high risk for spreading Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV). To prevent outbreaks, active surveillance is necessary. We found that percentage of dromedaries in Tunisia are MERS-CoV seropositive (80.4%) or actively infected (19.8%), indicating extensive circulation Northern Africa.
