There is a lack of information on critical care in Korea. The aim this study was to determine the current status Korean intensive units (ICUs), focusing organization, characteristics admitted patients, and nurse physician staffing. Critical specialists charge all 105 specialty training hospitals nationwide completed questionnaire survey. Among ICUs, 56.4% were located or near capital city. Only 38 ICUs (17.3%) had with 5-day work week. average daytime nurse-to-patient ratio 1:2.7. Elderly...

Opioid agonists have been implicated in neuroprotection from hypoxic injury through regulating mitogen-activated protein kinases and cytokines. We determined the effects of remifentanil focal brain ischemia reperfusion (I/R) injury. Mechanisms linked to kinases, including extracellular signaling-regulated kinase (ERK) 1/2, p38 c-Jun N-terminal (JNK), various cytokines were also examined.Male Sprague-Dawley rats subjected an I/R insult consisting 90 minutes' middle cerebral artery occlusion...

The intensity of nociceptive stimuli reflects the severity tissue injury. anaesthetic requirement and stress hormonal responses were determined to learn whether they differ according different surgical approaches (anterior vs. posterior) during spinal surgery.Patients undergoing lumbar spine surgery without neurological deficits divided into two groups: one having posterior (n=13) other anterior fusion (n=13). end-tidal sevoflurane concentrations (ET(SEVO)) required maintain bispectral index...

Inverted takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC), a variant of stress-induced cardiomyopathy, features transient myocardial dysfunction characterized by hyperdynamic left ventricular apex and akinesia the base. Herein, we describe 38-year-old primigravida with severe preeclampsia who had active labour for 4 h followed an emergency caesarean delivery. She developed postpartum haemorrhage due to uterine atony complicated pulmonary oedema, which was managed large-volume infusion hysterectomy. Her...

Background Dose requirements of thiopental depend on patient characteristics and infusion rate. We determined dose for induction anaesthesia, the effects remifentanil cardiovascular bispectral index ( BIS ) responses to tracheal intubation in spinal cord‐injured SCI patients undergoing general anaesthesia. Methods Twenty with traumatic complete elective surgery were enrolled. without served as control. Anaesthesia was induced thiopental, followed by 1 μ g/kg rocuronium 0.8 mg/kg, maintained...

Background: We investigated whether the intubating condition change acoording to methods of administration propofol and rocuronium. Methods: Ninety adult patients (ASA physical status I or II) undergoing elective surgery were randomly assigned one three groups; Group (n = 30) received rocuronium (0.6 mg/kg) after (2 mg/kg), II simultaneously via different intravenous routes, III a mixture same route.Intubation was attempted at 60 seconds rocuronium.Hemodynamic parameters (mean blood pressure,...

Methods: In first series, concentrations maintain bispectral index score (BIS) at 40−50 response were examined 27 patients undergoing surgery below level injury. Fifteen without served as control.
