As options to treat recalcitrant bacterial infections which are increasingly limited due multidrug-resistant strains, searching for new, effective antibacterial compounds is necessary. One strategy generate treatment alternatives by drug repurposing. In this work, phenotypic microarrays were used the screening of miscellaneous against growth and biofilm formation Acinetobacter baumannii, an important emergent opportunistic pathogen. The results showed that phenothiazine derivatives, such as...

Formalin fixation is the most common storage, transportation and preservation method for stool samples. However, dramatically reduces our ability to extract from samples DNA that a suitable template polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based diagnostic tests. In this study we evaluated effects of formalin concentration time stored in fixative on success PCR amplification. We found deleterious are both dependent may result fragmentation fixed during its purification.

Methoxychlor (MXC) and vinclozolin (VIN) are well-recognized endocrine disrupting chemicals known to alter epigenetic regulations transgenerational inheritance; however, non-endocrine disruption endpoints also important. Thus, we determined the effects of MXC VIN on dysregulation gap junctional intercellular communication (GJIC) activation mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) in WB-F344 rat liver epithelial cells. Both induced a rapid GJIC at non-cytotoxic doses, with 30 min EC50 values...

Cysticerci of Taenia crassiceps reproduce asexually by exogenous budding in the rodent intermediate host, and can experimentally develop to adult stage within small intestine golden hamsters. In present study, we report loss cysticercus infectivity for hamsters after maintaining strain 4 yr consecutive peritoneal passage mice. Larval was restored a from WFU developed into gravid tapeworm being passaged through dog. The eggs this were infective mice, which subsequently cysticerci with renewed...

SUMMARY In previous studies, ultrastructural observations revealed a large number of gap junctions (GJs) in the neck and immature proglottid tissues Taenia solium tapeworms. these helminths, cytoplasmic glycogen sacs are connected by numerous discrete GJs to other cells throughout maturing strobilar tissue. Discontinuous sucrose gradients were used purify membrane fractions containing GJs, which identified analysis. A trans-membrane peptide sequence from highly conserved innexin region was...

We studied the cyst production of 340 asymptomatic carriers with single or mixed infections Entamoeba histolytica/Entamoeba dispar, Endolimax nana and coli. It was found that main source transmission a small group 37 (10·9%) who produced 70·2% all cysts. Gender an important factor for Ent. histolytica/Ent. since males 6-fold more cysts than females. Females ‘large’ (13–15 μm) dispar (10–12 when concentration >2000 cysts/g. When < 2000 cysts/g, were same size both sexes (11·6 ± 0·3 μm). In...

Available options to combat bacterial infections are getting scarce. We require innovative and imaginative approaches enhance the identification discovery of effective antimicrobials capable combating bacteria resistant multiple or all available drugs. These methods should either directly eliminate influence their viability indirectly by inhibiting virulence reducing resistance antibacterial agents. One interesting approach is analyze ancient remedies presumably used treat infections, try...

Asexually proliferating Taenia crassiceps (Zeder, 1800) metacestodes isolated within past decades have been successfully sub-cultured under experimental conditions using Mus musculus Linnaeus, 1758 mice. However, during their development, morphological irregularities of scolex structures reported in two the three strains this cestode species maintained mice - ORF and KBS. The main goal work is to describe abnormalities observed a sample 118 cysticerci third T. strain used at present WFU....
