Abstract Demography provides critical data to increase our understanding of the evolution, ecology, and conservation primate populations. The chimpanzees Mahale Mountains National Park, Tanzania, have been studied for more than 34 yr on basis individual identification standardized attendance records. From this long‐term study, we derived following demographic data: major cause death was disease (48%), followed by senescence (24%) within‐species aggression (16%). Fifty percent died before...

Abstract and Summary A unit‐group (K‐group) of chimpanzees has shown a drastic demographic change in the course 17 years (1966–1983) field study. K‐group had 6 adult males 1966. Initially, group lost one by between 1969–1975. The number was main factor influencing immigration strange, cycling females emigration females, although nulliparous born into regularly emigrated to other unit‐groups, regardless within K‐group. When dropped only two early 1978, many began associate with larger...

Research suggests gender inequalities in adolescent mental health are context dependent and might be preventable through social structural change. However, variations the size of across diverse cultural contexts could due to incomparable measurement. We aimed compare a measurement among young people Tokyo, Japan, London, UK, test hypothesis that depressive symptom trajectories larger London than Tokyo. For this longitudinal cross-cohort study, we extracted responses 13-item Short Mood...

In the Mahale Mountains National Park of Tanzania, a group about 33 chimpanzees were observed to surround leopard den containing mother and at least one cub drag out kill cub. This is first report or any other primate species killing their potential predator’s offspring. The incident suggests that chimpanzees, without weapons, can manage defend themselves against carnivore up size, implicates how early hominids may have reacted predators.

Abstract Subcortical structures may have an important role in the pathophysiology of psychosis. Our recent mega-analysis structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data has reported subcortical volumetric and lateralization alterations chronic schizophrenia, including leftward asymmetric increases pallidal volume. The question remains, however, whether these characteristics represent vulnerability to development psychosis or they are epiphenomena caused by exposure medication illness...

A potential association between pet ownership and mental well-being is suggested, but there a shortage of high-quality longitudinal studies that consider probable differences among different species. We aimed to examine whether the most popular pets (dogs cats) would predict well-being. The Tokyo Teen Cohort (TTC), prospective population-based birth cohort study, had dog cat data at age 10 score ages 12 from 2584 adolescents. Linear regression analysis with adjusting for covariates showed...

Background Video game loot boxes, which can typically be purchased by players or are given as reward, contain random virtual items, loot, ranging from simple customization options for a player's avatar character, to game-changing equipment such weapons and armor. Loot boxes have drawn concern, purchasing might lead the development of problematic gambling adolescents. Although parental problem is associated with adolescent gambling, no studies evaluated prevalence box purchases in...

Abstract Psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) occur occasionally in adolescence and mostly disappear with increasing age. Their presence, if persistent, is considered a robust risk factor for subsequent psychiatric disorders. To date, only few biological markers have been investigated persistent PLE prediction. This study identified urinary exosomal microRNAs that can serve as predictive biomarkers PLEs. was part of population-based biomarker subsample the Tokyo Teen Cohort Study. A total 345...

ObjectiveEvidence on the impact of COVID-19 pandemic adolescent mental health is mixed and does not disentangle natural age-related changes. Many animals demonstrate numerical competence even without language. However, their representation is mainly based on inaccurate quantity instead of absolute numbers. Thus, performance tasks affected by the distance, magnitude, and ratio comparisons (i.e., as distance decreases, magnitudes increase, or ratios increase accuracy discrimination decreases). Background Enuresis (9% at age 9.5) negatively affects children's psychosocial status. Clinically-diagnosed enuresis (2% the age) is associated with hyperactivity-inattention, and common neural bases have been postulated to underlie this association. It is, however, unclear whether association applicable overall among general population of early adolescents when considered comorbid behavioral problems. We aimed examine correlates hyperactivity-inattention after controlling for effects other...
