With the aim of identifying objective cytogenetic-morphologic correlations, we evaluated 46 pleomorphic soft tissue sarcomas (mainly diagnosed originally as malignant fibrous histiocytomas) with clonal chromosome aberrations both cytogenetically and morphologically part an international collaborative study. By detailed histopathologic examination, most cases could be categorized into specific tumor types. Eight were lipogenic (4 pleomorphic, 1 combined myxoid/round cell, 3 dedifferentiated...
The findings of characteristic, sometimes pathognomonic, chromosome aberrations in several types soft tissue tumours have not only added to our understanding the mechanisms behind genesis these tumours, but also revealed importance cytogenetic analysis as a diagnostic tool. For many including peripheral nerve sheath number analysed cases is, however, still very low, precluding evaluations clinical or biological significance different chromosomal patterns. As part an ongoing project aiming at...

Human metaphase chromosomes were treated with HaeIII, HindIII, EcoRI, and AluI restriction endonucleases subsequently stained either Giemsa or ethidium bromide. The results obtained seemed to suggest that the structural organization of specific chromosome regions can play a primary role in determining cytological effect after digestion endonucleases.
Cytogenetic analysis carried out in 28 adipose tissue tumors diagnosed microscopically as myxoid liposarcoma (ML) revealed a t(12;16)(q13;p11) chromosomal translocation 26 of the cases. Morphologically, these were subclassified into following categories: well-differentiated, six cases; poorly differentiated round cell type, 17 spindle five Poorly ML behaved more aggressive fashion than well-differentiated tumors. The results this study confirm consistency and specificity genetic marker ML,...
Subcutaneous angiolipomas are benign soft-tissue lesions consisting of two mesenchymal elements (i.e., adipose tissue and blood vessels) having distinct clinical features. They usually multiple, with an obvious male predominance, hereditary occurrence has been described. Twenty subcutaneous from 10 patients typical morphologic features were reviewed. All had a normal karyotype. This finding is in striking contrast ordinary lipomas, spindle-cell pleomorphic lipoblastomas, hibernomas, most...
Human cytological preparations have been digested with Alu I restriction endonuclease (Endo R I) and subsequently stained acridine orange. Metaphase chromosomes treated in this way revealed a clear-cut bright/ dull longitudinal differentiation. It has postulated that these findings could be related to the selective digestion, by I, of all DNA exception some heterochromatic, possibly satellite, fractions.
Aim: To assess the role of lithium treatment in relationship between bipolar disorder (BD) and leukocyte telomere length (LTL). Materials & methods: We compared LTL 131 patients with BD, or without a history treatment, 336 controls. tested association genetically determined BD two large genome-wide datasets. Results: Patients showed longer never-treated (p = 0.015), similar never treated shorter controls 0.029). Mendelian randomization analysis no LTL. Conclusion: Our data support previous...
