Pruritus is a common side effect of intrathecal morphine injection for postoperative pain control. Its incidence especially high in patients undergoing cesarean delivery. We investigated the effectiveness ondansetron preventing morphine-induced pruritus such patients. included 60 consecutive nonbreastfeeding women who were scheduled elective After administration spinal anesthesia with bupivacaine and 0.15 mg injection, randomly divided into three groups. Group 1 received placebo (normal...

Retinal ischemia-associated ocular disorders are vision threatening. This study examined whether the flavonoid baicalein is able to protect against retinal ischemia/reperfusion.Using rats, intraocular pressure was raised 120 mmHg for 60 min induce ischemia. In vitro, an ischemic-like insult, namely oxidative stress, established by incubating dissociated cells with 100 μM ascorbate and 5 FeSO4 (iron) 1 h. The rats or had been pretreated (in vivo: 0.05 0.5 nmol; in vitro: μM), vehicle (1%...

Abstract We have reported recently that intrathecal (i.t.) injection of interleukin‐1β (IL‐1β), at a dose 100 ng, induces inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression and (NO) production in the spinal cord results thermal hyperalgesia rats. This study further examines role mitogen‐activated protein kinase (MAPK) i.t. IL‐1β‐mediated iNOS–NO cascade nociceptive signal transduction. All rats were implanted with an catheter either or without additional microdialysis probe. Paw withdrawal...

Botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A®) has been widely used in many clinical disorders including migraine, cervical dystonia, etc. The use of BTX-A neuropathic pain, however, is uncommon, and the application anti-nociceptive effect botulinum emerging. Here we report a case an 80-year-old man who suffered from severe pain post-herpetic neuralgia which was refractory to usual therapies. However, this dramatically relieved by multiple injection relief lasted 52 days.

In Brief Dexamethasone is an effective antiemetic drug, but its mechanism of action unclear. We designed this study to investigate the direct dexamethasone in medulla cats. By using oscillographic vomiting model, decerebrated cats received microinjections 100 nL (1 μg, n = 7; 0.1 7) into bilateral nuclei tractus solitarii, which led a significant prolongation latency 6.4 ± 1.1 min versus 28.2 4.9 min, P < 0.05; 6.7 27.1 5.0 0.05) first emetic episode and significantly decreased frequency...

In three these, diagnosed an additional not confirmed at remaining nine patients, surgical findings were missed by TEE. On other hand 3D...

Thirteen patients already scheduled for surgery repair of prosthetic paravalvular regurgitation underwent intraoperative real time two-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (2D TEE) and live/real three-dimensional (3D TEE). In all patients, 3D TEE was able to provide more information regarding the location size defect as compared 2D TEE. resulted in a accurate localization an estimation that correlated much closely with surgical findings when Our preliminary results demonstrate...

In Brief We report a case of permanent paraplegia in an 81-yr-old patient who had thoracic epidural catheterization performed under general anesthesia for abdominal surgery. The needle was introduced at the T9-10 interspace, and 3 passes were made to locate space with loss-of-resistance-to-air technique. During postoperative pump infusion, unaware progressive motor sensory impairment. Sensory loss below T11 no movement either lower extremity identified 8 h after Magnetic resonance imaging...

Abstract Objective: To evaluate the safety and feasibility of transcatheter closure atrial septal defect (ASD) without balloon sizing. Methods: A total 243 patients (group I), aged 2.1–76 years (median 22 years), underwent ASD The maximal diameter was measured on transesophageal echocardiographic (TEE) images. size device selected generally 4–6 mm 5–8 larger than diameter, if <14 ≥14 mm, respectively. results in group I were compared with those 271 II, median age 11 years) who sizing...

Background: Antioxidants effectively reduce ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury. The cardioprotective effects of luteolin, a flavonoid that exhibits antioxidant properties and is widely available in many fruits vegetables, were examined rats subjected to myocardial IR Methods Results: Rats ischemia or reperfusion injury evaluate the antiarrhythmic luteolin. Myocardial infarct size was determined histochemically with triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining left ventricle. Luteolin administered...
