Abstract In coastal seas, the role of atmospheric deposition and river runoff in dissolved organic phosphorus (DOP) utilization is not well understood. Here, we address this knowledge gap by combining microcosm experiments with a global approach considering relationship between activity alkaline phosphatases changes phytoplankton biomass relation to concentration inorganic (DIP). Our results suggest that addition aerosols riverine water stimulate biological DOP seas primarily depleting DIP...
Shipping is the cornerstone of international trade and thus a critical economic sector. However, ships predominantly use fossil fuels for propulsion electricity generation, which emit greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide methane, air pollutants particulate matter, sulfur oxides, nitrogen volatile organic compounds. The availability Automatic Information System (AIS) data has helped to improve emission inventories from ship stacks. Recent laboratory, shipborne, satellite modeling studies...
Abstract Haze particles as a key air pollutant contain high level of toxins, which were hypothesized to inhibit phytoplankton growth when deposited the ocean, and thus indirectly affect climate. However, field observations have yet provide conclusive evidence confirm this hypothesis. Onboard microcosm experiments in Northwest Pacific Ocean (NWPO) show that haze collected at East Asia continent had an inhibition impact on only very particle loading (2 mg/L). In contrast, low medium loadings...
In recent years, the investigation and exploitation of hydrothermal region polymetallic mineral areas has become a hot topic. The emergence underwater vehicle platforms made it possible for new chemical sensors to be applied in marine in-situ detection. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), with its advantages rapid real-time analysis, sampling without pretreatment, simultaneous multi-element detection stand-off detection, great potential applications. this paper, newly more compact...
In natural materials, thermal expansion is typically positive, and negative rarely observed. The tunable properties of mechanical metamaterials offer a promising solution to challenges caused by rapid temperature fluctuations. Therefore, this study proposes dual-material double-trapezoidal hexagonal metamaterial (DTH), derives the thermoelastic equations that build relationship between temperature, external force, displacement. Through theoretical analysis numerical simulation, intrinsic...
Endophytic bacteria play potentially important roles in the processes of plant adaptation to environment. Understanding composition and dynamics endophytic bacterial communities under heavy metal (HM) stress can reveal their impacts on host development tolerance. In this study, we investigated root different rice cultivars grown a cadmium (Cd)-contaminated paddy field. These are classified into low (RBQ, 728B, NX1B) high (BB S95B) levels Cd-accumulating capacity. Our metagenomic analysis...

In this study, a mangrove yeast strain Moesziomyces aphidis XM01 was identified used for efficient extracellular MEL production. The titer reached 64.5 ± 0.7 g/L at flask level within 7 days with optimized nitrogen carbon source 2.0 NaNO3 70 soybean oil. Furthermore, during 10-L two-stage...
Abstract Upwelling along oceanic eastern boundaries has attracted significant attention due to its profound effects on ocean productivity and associated biological socioeconomic implications. However, uncertainty persists regarding the evolution of coastal upwelling with climate change, particularly impact future production. Here, using a series state-of-the-art models, we identify seasonal advancement prolonged duration in major systems. Nevertheless, intensity (total volume upwelled water)...
Abstract. In this study, five on-board microcosm experiments were performed in the subtropical gyre, Kuroshio Extension region of northwest Pacific Ocean (NWPO), and Yellow Sea (YS) order to investigate phytoplankton growth following addition artificially modified mineral dust (AM dust) various nutrients (nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), iron (Fe), N + P, P Fe). The two carried out with AM-dust gyre showed a maximum chlorophyll (Chl a) concentration increase 1.7- 2.8-fold, while cell abundance...
Abstract Dust deposition is an important nutrient source to the South China Sea (SCS), but few in situ experiments were conducted on phytoplankton response deposition. We onboard incubation at three stations near Luzon Strait SCS, with addition of multiple dissolved inorganic nutrients, Asian dust, and rainwater. From our results, nitrogen phosphorus both urgently needed for growth indicated by evident Chl a together. Almost no was observed adding or iron alone waters, although delayed mass...
The effects of salinity on underwater laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) were investigated with salinities ranging from 2‰ to 50‰. Both spectroscopic and fast imaging techniques used observe plasma emission. It was shown that as the increased, emission intensities atomic lines while ionic suppressed. signal-to-background ratios spectral decreased a function salinity, but signal-to-noise changed irregularly salinity. Image results demonstrated brighter longer could be produced at...

Although increases in air pollutants are changing chemical compositions of atmosphere, the resultant impacts on marine biogeochemistry remains elusive. We performed a collective analysis 12 microcosm experimental data concerning treatments dust particles (DPs, typically mineral aerosols), haze (HPs, anthropogenic and various nutrients varying trophic seawaters Northwest Pacific Ocean. The addition DPs HPs generally stimulated phytoplankton growth, as indicated by total chlorophyll (Chl a),...
