The duration and severity of COVID-19 are related to age, comorbidities, cytokine synthesis. This study evaluated the impact these factors on patients with clinical presentations in a Brazilian cohort. A total 317 diagnosed were included; cases distributed according status as severe (n=91), moderate (n=56) mild (n=170). Of patients, 92 had acute at sample collection, 90 already recovered from without sequelae, 135 sequelae (long COVID syndrome). In group, form higher IL-6 levels (p=0.0260)....

Abstract The cGAS-STING pathway appears to contribute dysregulated inflammation during coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19); however, inflammatory factors related long COVID are still being investigated. In the present study, we evaluated association of cGAS and STING gene expression levels plasma IFN-α, TNF-α IL-6 with COVID-19 severity in acute infection COVID, based on analysis blood samples from 148 individuals, 87 61 post-COVID-19 period. Quantification was performed by real-time PCR,...

The apoptotic molecule Fas and its ligand FasL are involved in the process of T-lymphocyte death, which may lead to lymphopenia, a characteristic severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). In this study, we investigated influence polymorphisms FAS FASL genes, gene expression, plasma cytokine levels on COVID-19 severity long COVID occurrence. A total 116 individuals with 254 non-severe form were evaluated. post-COVID-19 period, samples from 196 67 people who did not have included. Genotyping...

Introduction Mannose-binding lectin (MBL) promotes opsonization, favoring phagocytosis and activation of the complement system in response to different microorganisms, may influence synthesis inflammatory cytokines. This study investigated association MBL2 gene polymorphisms with plasma levels MBL cytokines COVID-19. Methods Blood samples from 385 individuals (208 acute COVID-19 117 post-COVID-19) were subjected real-time PCR genotyping. Plasma measurements performed by enzyme-linked...

Abstract The description of the first human retrovirus, T-lymphotropic virus 1 (HTLV-1), was soon associated with an aggressive lymphoma and a chronic inflammatory neurodegenerative disease. Later, other clinical manifestations were described, affecting diverse target organs in body showing enormous burden carried by diseases. epidemiology HTLV-1 HTLV-2 showed that they largely distributed around world, although it is possible to locate geographical areas pockets low very high prevalence...

A persistent state of inflammation has been reported during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to assess short-term heart rate variability (HRV), peripheral body temperature, and serum cytokine levels in patients with long COVID. We evaluated 202 COVID symptoms categorized them according duration their (≤120 days, n = 81; >120 121), addition 95 healthy individuals selected as controls. All HRV variables differed significantly between control group ≤120 days (p < 0.05), participants had...

Abstract Background In this study, the prevalence and persistence of anti-SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus) IgG was evaluated in volunteers 90 days after COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) diagnosis by correlating response dynamics with clinical conditions, epidemiological characteristics, severity. Methods The study recruited 200 aged 18 years or older both sexes diagnosed COVID-19. Of initially selected, 135 individuals who underwent serological testing for...

Contact with HCV triggers the activation of innate mechanisms responsible for initial infection control. Host cells expressed extra- or intracellularly molecules that promote recognition pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs). Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), mannose-binding lectin (MBL) and C-reactive protein (CRP) are available PAMP recognition. The present study evaluated TLR4, MBL CRP gene expression in hepatic tissue chronic carriers (n = 22) association pathogenesis as well...
