This paper deals with the suitability of Fresnel lenses imaging and nonimaging designs for solar energy concentration. The paper's scope is review long known, recently developed lenses, analyses their characteristics utilization as concentrators, putting an emphasis on a lens designed by authors. Nonimaging optics are presented offering possibilities needed breakthrough in commercial concentration, both photovoltaic thermal power conversion.

Antimicrobial stewardship has not always prevailed in a wide variety of medical institutions Japan. The infection control team was involved the review individual use antibiotics all inpatients (6348 and 6507 patients/year during first second annual interventions, respectively) receiving intravenous antibiotics, according to published guidelines, consultation with physicians before prescription antimicrobial agents organisation education programme on for staff. The outcomes extensive...

Generation of an abnormal isoform the prion protein (PrP(Sc)) is a key aspect propagation prions. Elucidation intracellular localization PrP(Sc) in prion-infected cells facilitates understanding cellular mechanism propagation. However, technical improvement PrP(Sc)-specific detection required for precise analysis. Here, we show that mAb 132, which recognizes region adjacent to most amyloidogenic PrP, useful by immunofluorescence assay pre-treated with guanidine thiocyanate. Extensive...

Disruption of the endothelial glycocalyx is causally related to microvascular dysfunction, a characteristic sepsis-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Recombinant human thrombomodulin (rhTM) attenuates vascular injuries, but underlying mechanism remains elusive. Here, we investigated structural basis and molecular mechanisms rhTM effects on injury in model sepsis.LPS (20 mg·kg-1 ) was intraperitoneally injected into 10-week-old male C57BL6 mice, saline or 3 24 h after LPS...

Background/Aim: Nivolumab is effective against advanced gastric cancer (AGC) refractory to or in patients intolerant of standard chemotherapy. This study was designed clarify the impact cachexia with AGC who received nivolumab. Patients and Methods: We recruited were treated nivolumab from October 2017 December 2019. Clinical outcomes compared between without at start Cancer defined as weight loss >5%; >2% body mass index (BMI) <20; sarcopenia BMI <20. Primary endpoints median...

Abstract Syndecan-1 (SDC-1) is found in the endothelial glycocalyx and shed into blood during systemic inflammatory conditions. We investigated organ dysfunction associated with changing serum SDC-1 levels for early detection of critically ill patients. To evaluate effect on laboratory parameters measured day after measurement consideration repeated measures, linear mixed effects models were constructed each parameter as an outcome variable. A total 94 patients enrolled, 831 samples...

Abstract Background The coronavirus infection 2019 (COVID-19) is associated with microvascular endothelial injury. Here, we report that syndecan-1, a component of glycocalyx, may reflect the disease state COVID-19 related to Case presentation A patient was transferred intensive care unit our hospital. Computed tomography chest showed bilateral ground glass opacities, which diagnosed as acute respiratory syndrome. PaO 2 /F I O ratio gradually increased from 158 on hospitalization 300 Day 11,...

Abstract Background Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) reduce the bioavailability of several anticancer drugs. The impact PPIs co-administered with cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 is controversial. We aimed to clarify whether concomitant use impacts palbociclib abemaciclib effectiveness in breast cancer treatment. Patients Methods This multicenter, retrospective, observational study, conducted across medical institutions Japan, consecutively included patients endocrine-resistant metastatic...

The durability of vaccine-induced immune memory to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is crucial for preventing infection, especially disease. This follow-up report from a phase 1/2 study S-268019-b (a recombinant spike protein vaccine) after homologous booster vaccination confirms its long-term safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity. Booster with resulted in an enhancement serum neutralizing antibody (NAb) titers broad range viral neutralization. Single-cell...
