We report the discovery of a stellar overdensity 8° north centre Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC; Northern Over-Density; SMCNOD), using data from first 2 yr Dark Energy Survey (DES) and year MAGellanic SatelLITEs (MagLiteS). The SMCNOD is indistinguishable in age, metallicity distance nearby SMC stars, being primarily composed intermediate-age stars (6 Gyr, Z=0.001), with small fraction young (1 Z=0.01). has an elongated shape ellipticity 0.6 size ∼ 6° × 2°. It absolute magnitude MV ≅ −7.7, rh =...

We report the discovery of two new candidate stellar systems in constellation Cetus using data from first years Dark Energy Survey (DES). The objects, DES J0111−1341 and J0225+0304, are located at a heliocentric distance ∼25 kpc appear to have old metal-poor populations. Their distances Sagittarius orbital plane, ∼1.73 (DES J0111−1341) ∼0.50 J0225+0304), indicate that they possibly associated with dwarf stream. half-light radius (rh ≃ 4.55 pc) luminosity (MV +0.3) consistent it being an...

The Dark Energy Survey (DES) is an operating optical survey aimed at understanding the accelerating expansion of universe using four complementary methods: weak gravitational lensing, galaxy cluster counts, baryon acoustic oscillations, and Type Ia supernovae. To perform 5000 sq-degree wide field 30 supernova surveys, DES Collaboration built Camera (DECam), a 3 square-degree, 570-Megapixel CCD camera that was installed prime focus Blanco 4-meter telescope Cerro Tololo Inter-American...

Abstract The stellar spheroidal components of the Milky-Way contain oldest and most metal poor its stars. Inevitably processes governing early stages Galaxy evolution are imprinted upon them. According to currently favoured hierarchical bottom-up scenario galaxy formation, these components, specially Galactic halo, repository mass built up from accretion events in those stages. These still going on today, as attested by long streams associated Sagittarius dwarf several other observed tidal...
