OBJECTIVES: After an acute variceal bleeding, early decision for aggressive management of patients with worse prognosis may improve outcomes. The effectiveness currently recommended standard therapy (drugs plus endoscopic ligation) different risk subgroups and the validity available criteria in clinical practice are unknown. METHODS: We analyzed data 301 consecutive cirrhotic admitted esophageal bleeding. All received antibiotics, somatostatin, 263 therapy. A stratified 6-week mortality...

Background and aims Recurrent bleeding from gastrointestinal (GI) angiodysplasia remains a therapeutic challenge. Identification of factors predicting poor outcome haemorrhage would help us to select the patients who may likely benefit further therapy. Thus, we analysed risk for recurrence acute GI angiodysplasia. Patients methods 62 admitted consecutively with angiodysplasia, between June 2002 2006, were included. Bivariate, multivariate survival analysis performed identify after hospital...

We developed a non-survival in vivo model for testing of gastric natural orifice translumenal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) closures based on the yield pressure. The aim this study was to test our comparing different closure techniques with surgical NOTES incision.Laparotomy performed 30 pigs. One tube air inflation and one manometry were inserted into stomach via pylorus, which closed gas-tight, abdominal wall closed. inflated air, gastroesophageal pressure measured. A gastroscopy performed,...

Investigations indicate that natural orifice translumenal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) procedures induce a less pronounced postoperative inflammatory response than open or laparoscopic surgery, inflicting trauma. In NOTES procedures, no skin incision is performed. We compare the added by type of measuring C-reactive protein (CRP) and tumors necrosis factor-alfa (TNF-α).Twenty-seven pigs were randomized to surgical, laparoscopic, transgastric abdominal access. After completion accesses, was All...

Aim: to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of self-expandable metal stent placement for malignant gastric outlet obstruction (GOO). Methods: a retrospective, analytic cohort study at single, tertiary-care center. Results: thirty-six patients that underwent GOO origin were identified during period. Technical success was achieved in 36 (100 %) clinical 31 (86.1 %). Before procedure, 17 (54.8 had score (GOOSS) 0, which is complete inability oral intake. Twenty-three alive 30 days after two...
