OBJECTIVE To determine the prevalence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa colonization on intensive care unit (ICU) admission, risk factors for P. colonization, and incidence subsequent clinical culture with among those colonized not colonized. METHODS We conducted a cohort study patients admitted to medical or surgical tertiary hospital. Patients had admission perirectal surveillance cultures performed. Risk analyzed included comorbidities at age, sex, antibiotics received during current...

As processing times for these technologies shorten, ability to use data targeted infection prevention seemingly attainable and great interest practitioners an era limited resources. Recent Findings Common infections such as C. difficile methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus may be acquired...

We compared two Candida auris screening strategies in high-risk patients. The positivity rates for point prevalence survey (PPS) and admission were similar: 3.9% versus 3.4%, respectively, P = 1.00. Approximately 3% of patients are colonized, thus there is a need universal infection prevention approach C. auris.

Healthcare workers routinely self-contaminate even when using personal protective equipment. Observations of donning/ doffing practices on inpatient units along with surveys were used to assess the need for a equipment training program.
