PURPOSE Increased automation has been identified as one approach to improving global cancer care. The Radiation Planning Assistant (RPA) is a web-based tool offering automated radiotherapy (RT) contouring and planning low-resource clinics. In this study, the RPA workflow clinical acceptability were assessed by physicians around world. METHODS output for 75 cases was reviewed at least three physicians; 31 radiation oncologists 16 institutions in six countries on five continents contours plans...
Purpose We assessed automated contouring of normal structures for patients with head-and-neck cancer (HNC) using a multiatlas deformable-image-registration algorithm to better provide fully radiation treatment planning solution low- and middle-income countries, quantitative analysis, determine acceptability worldwide. Methods Autocontours eight (brain, brainstem, cochleae, eyes, lungs, mandible, parotid glands, spinal cord) from 128 HNC were retrospectively scored by dedicated oncologist....
Planning for palliative radiotherapy is performed without the advantage of MR or PET imaging in many clinics. Here, we investigated CT-only GTV delineation treatment head and neck cancer. Two multi-institutional datasets palliative-intent plans were retrospectively acquired: a set 102 non-contrast-enhanced CTs 96 contrast-enhanced CTs. The nnU-Net auto-segmentation network was chosen its strength medical image segmentation, five approaches separately trained: (1) heuristic-cropped,...
Limited data exist on the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma in sub-Saharan Africa. To determine HPV-positive at a large tertiary care center South Africa.A total 266 carcinomas diagnosed during an 11-year period (2007-2017) were selected for evaluation. Cases staining positive p16 immunohistochemistry evaluated high-risk HPV using BD Onclarity assay (BD Diagnostics, Sparks, Maryland).Of carcinomas, 14% (n = 36) p16. Polymerase chain...
Access to radiotherapy worldwide is limited. The Radiation Planning Assistant (RPA) a fully automated, web-based tool that being developed offer automated treatment planning tools clinics with limited resources. goal help clinical teams scale their efforts, thus reaching more patients cancer. user connects the RPA via webpage, completes Service Request (prescription and information about targets), uploads patient's CT image set. offers two approaches planning. In one-step planning, system...
Sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma (SNTCS) is a highly malignant and rare tumour characterised by complex admixture of teratomatous carcinosarcomatous components. In the head neck area, it almost exclusively occurs in sinonasal cavities; however, instances nasopharyngeal oral cavity involvement have been reported, with fewer than 100 cases reported literature. The contributed case involves correlative CT, MRI histopathology intracranial involvement.
Background The aim was to describe the profile of Head and Neck Cancers (HNC) at a referral centre in South Africa. Methods Records from January 2015 December 2017 were reviewed.Variables analysed site, histologic type, age, sex, HIV status, p16 treatment intent/ modality, Eastern Cooperative Oncology group performance (ECOG).Results Of 854 patients, 71% male.Median age 58.Smoking risk factor 86.3% (n=737) alcohol 74.2% (n=634).53.86% (n=460) 27.17% (n=232) had ECOG scores 1 2 respectively.9%...
Although squamous cell carcinoma accounts for the overwhelming majority of head and neck malignant neoplasms, extranodal follicular dendritic sarcoma (FDCS) pharyngeal region can have a similar clinical presentation. The histopathological features this rare entity been described emphasised in literature. We present case 65-year-old male patient with FDCS tonsil to illustrate radiologic findings also highlight infrequent but salient differential diagnosis adult neoplasia.
