Abstract This study used multivariate modeling techniques to estimate the effect of household proximity retail and bicycle facilities on odds walking cycling in Twin Cities Minneapolis St. Paul, Minnesota. We analyzed these relationships employing detailed GIS data individual-level travel diary data. found that distances are statistically significant predictors choosing active modes transport at close distances, but do not appear be linear.
There is a high prevalence of liver disease among the recipients organs from donors with antibodies to hepatitis C virus (HCV). We undertook study determine frequency persistent HCV infection, as indicated by presence RNA, both cadaveric organ positive for (anti-HCV) and these donors.
Although the Affordable Care Act has been successful in expanding Medicaid to >17 million people, insurance alone may not translate into access health care. Even among insured, substantial barriers accessing services inhibit care utilization. We examined effect of selected and magnitude those on utilization.Data come from a 2008 survey adult enrollees Minnesota's public programs. We used multivariate logistic regression estimate effects perceived patient, provider, system-level past year...

Direct detection of hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA in serum or plasma is useful for validating the performance anti‐HCV assays and discrimination persons with persistent HCV infections from those resolved infections. Quantitation may also be disease prognosis therapeutic monitoring. Previous studies have reported 50 to 70 percent blood donors who were positive on supplemental tests. There concern that specimen processing storage conditions might influence stability, hence detectability, RNA. To...
Objective: We sought to examine the extent which reported barriers health care services differ between American Indians (AIs) and non-Hispanic Whites (Whites). Methods: A statewide stratified random sample of Minnesota program enrollees was surveyed. Responses from AI White adult (n = 1281) parents child 572) were analyzed using logistic regression models that account for complex design. Barriers examined include: financial, access, cultural barriers, confidence/trust in providers,...
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotyping is a tool used to optimize antiviral treatment regimens. The newly developed Versant HCV genotype assay (LiPA) 2.0 uses sequence information from both the 5' untranslated region and core region, allowing distinction between 1 subtypes c l of 6 b 1. HCV-positive samples were genotyped manually using system according manufacturer's instructions. For comparison study, 1.0 was used. In this 99.7% could be amplified, 96.0% determined, agreement with reference...
Hospital care for ambulatory sensitive conditions (ACSC) is potentially avoidable and often viewed as an indicator of suboptimal primary care. However, preventable encounters with the health system also occur in emergency department (ED) settings. We examined ED visits to identify subpopulations disproportionate use EDs ACSC care.We analyzed data from 2007-2009 National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey 78,114 by adults aged 18 older. Outcomes were determined diagnosis. constructed analytic...
We present a theory of conversation comprehension in which line the is “understood” by relating it to one seven possible “points”. define these points, and examples where seems plausible that failure “get point” would indeed constitute understand conversation. argue recognition such points must proceed both top down bottom up fashion, thus likely be quite complicated. Finally, we see processing information dependent upon point classification user decides upon.
Abstract Background There exists limited documentation of nonmedical methods labor induction and pain management during childbirth in the United States. We estimated prevalence interventions for examined association between medical care labor. Methods used a nationally representative survey U.S. women who gave birth 2005 ( N = 1,382) to examine use management. Using logistic regression, we calculated odds induce or mitigate pain, obstetric analgesia by whether were reported. Results Nearly...

Objective:
The purpose of this study was to characterize the relationship between maternal depressive symptoms and employment whether it is mediated by social support.
Methods:
We used data from a nationally representative sample 700 US women who gave birth in 2005 completed 2 surveys Listening Mothers series, first early 2006, an average 7.3 months postpartum, second 13.4 postpartum. A dichotomous measure calculated 2-item Patient Health Questionnaire, reported...
Meditation is a common type of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), the evidence for its usefulness health promotion growing. Women have higher rates overall CAM use than men do, but little known about gender differences in meditation practices, reasons use, or perceived benefits.Data from 2012 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) were used. The NHIS design multistage probability sample representative US adults aged ≥18 (n = 34,342). Design-based F-test logistic regression used;...
Economic differences and proximal risk factors do not fully explain the persistent high infant mortality rates of African Americans (blacks). The authors hypothesized that racial residential segregation plays an independent role in black rates. Segregation restricts social economic advantage imposes negative environmental exposures women infants experience. study sample was obtained from 2000–2002 US Linked Birth/Infant Death records included 677,777 residing 64 cities with 250,000 or more...
Many people suffering from low back pain (LBP) have found conventional medical treatments to be ineffective for managing their LBP and are increasingly turning complementary alternative medicine (CAM) find relief. A comprehensive picture of CAM use in the population, including all most commonly used modalities, is needed. To examine prevalence perceived benefit within US population by limiting vs nonlimiting evaluate odds past year population.Data 2012 National Health Interview Survey,...
Objective To determine whether patient‐perceived pressure from clinicians for labor induction or cesarean delivery is significantly associated with having these procedures. Data Sources/Study Setting Listening to Mothers III , a nationally representative survey of women 18–45 years who delivered singleton infant in U.S. hospital July 2011–June 2012 ( N = 2,400). Study Design Multivariate logistic regression analysis factors perceived and estimation odds given pressure. Principal Findings...
To examine the prevalence of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) use by race/ethnicity to identify sociodemographic health-related factors associated with CAM among US adults moderate mental distress (MMD).We analyzed data from 2012 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS). We used for 6016 noninstitutionalized MMD (3492 non-Hispanic whites, 953 blacks, 1078 Hispanics, 268 Asians, 225 others consisted American Indian, Alaska Native, those reporting multiple races). The NHIS asks...
Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is widely used as a serological marker in the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and non-seminomatous germ cell tumours (NSGCT). By application isoelectric focusing (IEF) disease-specific AFP isoforms can be identified. Three major bands are apparent: + l (associated with 'benign' liver disease), II HCC) +III NSGCT). Recently, we have characterized predominant glycans human serum now report these findings electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) to...
