A unique dendrimer-assisted approach is reported to create Fe3O4/Au nanocomposite particles (NCPs) for targeted dual mode computed tomography/magnetic resonance (CT/MR) imaging of tumors. In this approach, preformed Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) are assembled with multilayers poly(γ-glutamic acid) (PGA)/poly(l-lysine)/PGA/folic acid (FA)-modified dendrimer-entrapped gold via a layer-by-layer self-assembly technique. Summary We propose a new embedded finite element method to simulate partial differential equations over domains with internal interfaces. Our approach belongs the family of surrogate/approximate interface methods and relies on idea shifting location value jump conditions. This choice has goal preserving optimal convergence rates while avoiding small cut cells related problematic issues, typical traditional methods. The proposed is accurate, robust, efficient, simple implement. apply this...

Abstract Phase‐field methods are attractive for simulating the mechanical failure of geometrically complex porous microstructures described by 2D/3D x‐ray CT images in subsurface (e.g., CO storage) and manufacturing Li‐ion battery) applications. They capture nucleation, growth, branching fractures without prior knowledge propagation path or having to remesh domain. Their drawback lies high computational cost typical domain sizes encountered practice. We present a multiscale preconditioner...

Selective laser melted (SLMed) AlSi10Mg alloys usually fail before necking during tensile tests, which results in inadequate ductility. To overcome this problem, here we introduced Al4C3 nanorods into the primary Al cells of SLMed via in-situ chemical reaction. Tensile tests revealed that those in-cell not only increased strain-hardening ability but also delayed fracture beyond necking. Consequently, 15% strength increase and 78% ductility were achieved simultaneously. Post-tensile TEM...
