A retrospective serological survey was carried out by the indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) and complement fixation (CF) test in a sample of 425 healthy residents (240 females 185 males) to investigate whether Lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) circulates rural area northern Croatian island Vir, which is known be endemic for murine typhus. The overall prevalence LCMV antibodies detected IFA found 36% (155 425) 13% (54 CF. No significant difference seroprevalence observed with...
Coronaviruses (CoVs) are diverse group of viruses that mainly affect birds and mammals. In contrast to common CoVs, novel such as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), Middle East (MERS-CoV) SARS-CoV-2 highly pathogenic, especially in the elderly immunocompromised patients [1].CoV transmitted through droplets contact with infected persons, however other routes transmission including feco-oral well via contaminated hands or surfaces remain be further studied [2].Since...

"Antigen-Capture Enzyme Immunoassay: a Comparison with other Methods for the Detection of Spotted Fever Group Rickettsiae in Ticks" published on Mar 1994 by The American Society Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
Background: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a family of proteolytic enzymes with numerous roles in the normal immune response to infection. However, excess MMP activity following infection may lead immunopathological processes that cause tissue damage. Their tissues is subject tight control, which regulated by its specific endogenous inhibitors (TIMPs). It known MMPs bind cell surface proteins (e.g. integrins) and such interactions can have modulatory effects on functionality. The...
A seroepidemiological survey in coastal Croatia detected antibodies reactive with Rickettsia conorii 4.2% of sera by immunofluorescence assay and 5.0% enzyme immunoassay. Western immunoblotting demonstrated to the 120-kDa surface protein all 20 positive serum samples examined rickettsial lipopolysaccharide 3 these samples. Humans this area are clearly being exposed spotted fever rickettsiae.
We report a case involving 15-year-old girl with atypical, clinically unsuspected cat scratch disease (CSD) presenting as isolated posterior pancreatic duodenal lymphadenitis, fever, and abdominal pain. The serological, ultrasonographic, CT findings, well clinical epidemiological data, indicate that B. henselae was likely an etiologic agent of CSD in our patient.
