We describe three unusual tumours characterized by a mixture of glial and neuronal differentiation, involvement the posterior fossa formation rosettes. Mixed glial-neuronal are rare poorly described neoplasms. However, several distinctive entities have appeared in literature over recent years under variety different names. Our cases demonstrate morphological features 'rosette-forming glioneuronal tumour fourth ventricle', recently identified characterised its unique location, neurocytic...
ABSTRACT Stellar chemical abundances have proved themselves a key source of information for understanding the evolution Milky Way, and scale major stellar surveys such as GALAH massively increased amount data available. However, progress is hampered by level precision in abundance well visualization methods comparing multidimensional outputs models to data. Machine learning greatly improved former; while application tree-building or phylogenetic borrowed from biology are beginning show...
The most metal-poor stars provide valuable insights into the early chemical enrichment history of a system, carrying imprints first generations supernovae. region Sagittarius dwarf galaxy remains inadequately observed and characterised. To date, only ∼4 with [Fe/H] < −2.0 have been chemically analysed high-resolution spectroscopy. In this study, we present extensive abundance analysis 12 low-metallicity metallicities down to = −3.26 located in main body Sagittarius. These targets,...
Molluscs are a highly speciose phylum that exhibits an astonishing array of colours and patterns, yet relatively little progress has been made in identifying the underlying genes determine phenotypic variation. One prominent example is land snail Cepaea nemoralis for which classical genetic studies have shown around nine loci, several physically linked inherited together as 'supergene', control shell colour banding polymorphism. As first step towards involved, we used whole-genome...
Abstract Phylogenetic methods have long been used in biology and more recently extended to other fields—for example, linguistics technology—to study evolutionary histories. Galaxies also an history fall within this broad phylogenetic framework. Under the hypothesis that chemical abundances can be as a proxy for interstellar medium’s DNA, allow us reconstruct hierarchical similarities differences among stars—essentially, tree of relationships thus history. In work, we apply simulated disk...

We analyse high-resolution ESPaDOnS/CFHT spectra of 20 very metal-poor stars ([Fe/H]~$<-2.0$) in the solar neighbourhood (within $\sim2$ kpc) selected to be on planar orbits (with a maximum height $\lesssim4$ kpc). Targets include 11 prograde and 9 retrograde stars, spanning wide range eccentricities ($0.20-0.95$). Their chemical abundances are consistent with those observed Galactic halo but show smaller spread, no notable difference between progrades retrogrades. This suggests common...
