Abstract Much efforts have been made for the realization of hybrid Josephson junctions incorporating various materials fundamental studies exotic physical phenomena as well applications to superconducting quantum devices. Nonetheless, hindered by diffusive nature conducting channels and interfaces. To overcome obstacles, we vertically sandwiched a cleaved graphene monoatomic layer normal-conducting spacer between electrodes. The atomically thin single-crystalline serves an ultimately short...

ABSTRACT Autophagy (ATG), an important cellular recycling process whereby macromolecules or organelles are encapsulated by autophagosome and degraded upon merging with lysosome, has recently been shown to play essential role in bone biology. However, the involvement of ATG bone-related cells remains unclear. Here, we show that Beclin1, ATG-related protein involved initiation, plays a pivotal osteoclasts. was activated during osteoclast differentiation vitro. Beclin1 enhanced required for...

Growing evidence suggests close associations between periodontitis and atherosclerosis. To further understand the pathological relationships of these associations, we developed with ligature placement around maxillary molars or in conjunction Porphyromonas gingivalis lipopolysaccharide injection at sites (ligature/P.g. LPS) Apolipoprotein E knock out mice studied atherogenesis process animals. The were fed high fat diet for 11 weeks sacrificed analyzing periodontitis, systemic inflammation,...

Oral mucosa provides the first line of defense against a diverse array environmental and microbial irritants by forming barrier epithelial cells interconnected multiprotein tight junctions (TJ), adherens junctions, desmosomes, gap junction complexes. Grainyhead-like 2 (GRHL2), an epithelial-specific transcription factor, may play role in formation mucosal barrier, as it regulates expression proteins. The current study investigated GRHL2 Porphyromonas gingivalis ( Pg)–induced impairment...

Guar gum, a nonionic galactomannan, is used as an economical thickener and stabilizer in the food industry often combined with xanthan, locust bean gum (LBG), or carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) to promote synergistic changes viscosity gelling behavior via intermolecular interactions; however, adulteration of LBG guar well-known industrial problem. The ability identify purity gums concentrations individual mixtures would be advantageous for quality control industry. Fourier transform infrared...

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major cause of severe lower respiratory tract disease in infancy and early childhood. Despite its importance as pathogen, there no licensed vaccine against RSV. The G glycoprotein RSV, attachment protein, potentially important target for protective antiviral immune responses. Here, recombinant replication-deficient adenovirus-based vaccine, rAd/3xG, expressing the soluble core domain (amino acids 130 to 230) engineered by codon optimization tandem...

A practical procedure has been developed for the dynamic kinetic resolution of 1,2-diarylethanols. This employs a highly enantioselective lipase from Pseudomonas stutzeri (trade name, TL) as catalyst and ruthenium complex racemization catalyst. Sixteen 1,2-diarylethanols have efficiently resolved to provide their acetyl derivatives with good yields (95-97%) high enantiomeric excesses (96-99%).

Semiconducting SnO2 nanowires deposited with Pd and Sn nanoparticles on their surface are shown to be a highly sensitive hydrogen sensor fast response time at room temperature. Compared the nanowire or alone, Pd/Sn-deposited exhibits significant improvement in sensitivity reversibility of sensing gas air Our investigation indicates that two factors responsible for synergistic effect Pd/Sn codeposition nanowires. One is presence oxidation incomplete leading only suboxides SnOx (1 ≤ x < 2),...

ABSTRACT Long-term administration of nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates can induce detrimental side effects such as bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis the jaw (BRONJ) in human. Although inflammation is known to be associated with BRONJ development, detailed underlying mechanism remains unknown. Here, we report that pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-36α is, part, responsible for development. We found a notably higher level and lower collagen lesions mice. also remarkably suppressed...

Chronic and extensive exposure of ultraviolet (UV)-irradiation causes human skin sunburn, inflammation, or photoaging, which is associated with downregulated collagen synthesis. This study investigated the effects fermented blackberry (Rubus fruticosus B., FBB) by Lactobacillus plantarum JBMI F5 (LP) on UVB-induced photoaging in foreskin fibroblast (Hs68) as well SKH-1 hairless mice. FBB pretreatment inhibited UVB-mediated type-1 procollagen degradation, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-1...
