The lyotropic liquid crystalline phases of surfactants exhibit a rich polymorphism structures that have long-range periodicities and whose characteristic repeat distances range from 2 to 15 nanometers. electrochemical reduction platinum salts confined the aqueous environments these leads deposition films well-defined long-ranged porous nanostructure high specific surface areas. These results suggest use plating solutions could be versatile way create mesoporous electrodes for batteries, fuel...
Hexagonally structured, mesoporous platinum (see picture on the right) is obtained by reduction of salts in lyotropic liquid-crystalline phases. The template can be removed from nanostructured metal colloid without affecting its structure.
Abstract Six series of a family non-symmetric dimers, the α-(4-cyanobiphenyl-4′-yloxy)-ω-(4-n-alkylanilinebenzylidene-4′-oxy)alkanes, have been prepared. In three series, number methylene groups in flexible alkyl spacer has varied from 3 to 12 while terminal chain is held constant at either 2, 6 or 10. remaining effect increasing length studied by holding 3, 4 5 units varying 0 10 carbon atoms. The phase behaviour and transitional properties these investigated using optical microscopy...
The activity of CTP:phosphocholine cytidylyltransferase, a rate-limiting enzyme in phosphatidylcholine biosynthesis, is modulated by its interaction with lipid bilayers [Kent, C. (1997) Biochim. Biophys. Acta 1348, 79-90]. Its regulation central importance the maintenance membrane homeostasis. Here we show evidence that stored curvature elastic stress membrane's monolayer modulates cytidylyltransferase. Our results how purely physical feedback signal could play key role control synthesis.
Metallic nickel was electrodeposited from aqueous nickel(II) acetate dissolved in the lyotropic liquid crystalline phases of Brij 56 and 78 surfactant templates to form metal films with hexagonal arrays nanometer-sized channels. The applicability these materials as inexpensive, large area low-resistance current collectors demonstrated by cyclic voltammetry. redox charge capacity surface oxide KOH enhanced 2 orders magnitude over that a nontemplated sample no detectable impedance reaction rate.
The sorptive properties of clay are harnessed to provide niches for tissue regeneration. Synthetic smectite clays self-organize into gels under physiological conditions allow encapsulation cells and demonstrate remarkable capacity the localization biological molecules without need complex chemical modifications.
A systematic investigation into the effects of deposition conditions on electrochemical properties and nanostructure high surface area (up to ∼460 m2 cm-3) mesoporous platinum films (HI-ePt) obtained by electroreduction hexachloroplatinic acid (HCPA) from an hexagonal lyotropic liquid crystalline phase is reported. The area, repeat distance, regularity morphology were shown depend conditions. In particular, potential was found have a notable effect film uniformity nanostructure. results are...
Nanostructured platinum films were electrodeposited onto microelectrodes from an hexagonal lyotropic liquid crystalline plating mixture. Cyclic voltammetry in dilute sulfuric acid and copper underpotential deposition confirmed that the resulting had high surface areas (with roughness factors of ca. 210) as a direct consequence their electrochemically accessible nanostructure. The shown to combine real area with efficient mass transport characteristics. This combination properties is unique...
Mesoporous and well-mixed Pt/Ru alloys (1:1 atomic ratio) were prepared by co-reduction of metal salts in the hexagonal liquid crystalline phase a nonionic surfactant. Preliminary data indicate that oxidation carbon monoxide mesoporous alloy is more facile than commercial platinum catalyst or platinum.
Chromatin-associated phospholipids are well recognized. A report that catalytically active endonuclear CTP:choline-phosphate cytidylyltransferase α is necessary for cell survival questions whether endonuclear, CDP-choline pathway phosphatidylcholine synthesis may occur in situ. We chromatin from human IMR-32 neuroblastoma cells possesses such a biosynthetic pathway. First, membrane-free nuclei retain all three enzymes in proportions comparable with the content of chromatin-associated...

Adherent and uniform nanostructured mesoporous films of selenium have been produced by electrodeposition from the hexagonal liquid-crystalline phase a nonionic surfactant. The regular nanostructure consists 25-Å diameter cylindrical pores distributed on long-ranged lattice. Electron diffraction reveals that is single crystalline with an hcp structure. Current−voltage curves recorded STM indicate electrodeposits are intrinsic semiconductors apparent band gap ≈1.0 eV.
Abstract A homologous series of symmetric dimeric liquid crystals has been synthesized and its phase behaviour investigated. All members the were found to form glassy phases above room temperature.
Phytoplankton replace phosphorus-containing lipids (P-lipids) with non-P analogues, boosting growth in P-limited oceans. In the model diatom Thalassiosira pseudonana, substitution dynamics of lipid headgroups are well described, but those individual lipids, differing fatty acid composition, unknown. Moreover, behavior outside common headgroup classes and relationship between cellular particulate organic P (POP) have yet to be reported. We investigated these through mass spectrometric...
This study aimed to investigate the chemical composition, fatty acid profile and polyphenol content of Provola cheese made with cow’s milk from cows fed a diet incorporating olive cake. Cheese samples were analysed in different months order test diet×season effects. The results show that composition was influenced by both factors. most beneficial human health point view produced treatment spring. The effect of hexachloroplatinic acid (HCPA) on the liquid crystalline phase boundaries ternary systems containing a nonionic surfactant and water was investigated. temperature composition ranges phases were affected dramatically by presence HCPA. In particular it found that platinum compound enhanced significantly stability more highly curved (I1 micellar cubic HI phases).
