ABSTRACT Aims Topiramate has shown efficacy at facilitating abstinence from alcohol and cocaine abuse. This double‐blind, placebo‐controlled out‐patient trial tested topiramate for treating methamphetamine addiction. Design Participants ( n = 140) were randomized to receive or placebo (13 weeks) in escalating doses 50 mg/day the target maintenance of 200 weeks 6–12 (tapered week 13). Medication was combined with weekly brief behavioral compliance enhancement treatment. Setting The conducted...

Arthritis and hypertension are frequent comorbidities in the elderly hypertensive population. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs often used to relieve pain arthritic patients but a side effect is sodium retention consequent elevation of blood pressure (BP). The dihydropyridine calcium blocking relatively independent intake, whereas angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors' effects can be blunted by high-sodium diet. This study compared indomethacin with placebo essential who had been...

1 Ranitidine pharmacokinetics were studied in six healthy volunteers. Following an overnight fast, doses of 20 mg intravenously 20, 40 and 100 orally with a standard meal, administered to each subject on separate occasions. 2 intravenous administration there was bioexponential decline plasma levels from 576 +/- 56 ng/ml at 4 min 10 8 h. A variety of neuropharmacological strategies are being pursued in the search for an effective treatment methamphetamine (Meth) addiction. In this study, we investigated safety and potential efficacy aripiprazole, antipsychotic agent acting on both dopamine serotonin systems. We conducted a double-blind in-patient clinical pharmacology study to assess interactions between intravenous (i.v.) Meth (15 mg 30 mg) oral aripiprazole mg). addition, effects abstinence-related craving cue-induced were...

Atomoxetine has been considered as an agonist replacement therapy for cocaine. We investigated the safety of interaction atomoxetine with cocaine and also whether cognitive function was affected by during short-term administration. In a double-blind placebo-controlled inpatient study 20 cocaine-dependent volunteers, participants received 80 mg daily followed 100 5 days each. On fourth fifth day at each dose, (20 40 mg) infused intravenously in sequential sessions.Preinfusion mean systolic...

Ten patients who had their blood pressure controlled with enalapril (10 mg, n = 4; 20 6) and 10 control subjects on Perindopril (4 6; 8 4) entered a double-blind crossover study. The interim results of a study using Captopril (SQ 14225) and hydrochlorothiazide in the management moderate hypertension are presented. Both drugs, when used individually, had significant antihypertensive effect. When together, adequate blood pressure control was achieved all, except one, 14 patients. Probable reactions to therapy included loss taste, rash, bronchospasm flushing after eating.

The HIV risk-taking behavior scale (HRBS) is an 11-item instrument designed to assess the risks of infection due self-reported injection drug use and sexual behavior. A retrospective analysis was performed on HRBS data collected from approximately 1,000 participants pooled across seven clinical trials pharmacotherapies for either treatment cocaine-dependence or methamphetamine-dependence. Analysis faced three important challenges. sample contained a high proportion missing assessments after...
