ABSTRACT Four hundred ninety-nine methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates recovered from 1996 to 1998 22 hospitals in five countries of Latin America—Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Mexico—were examined for antimicrobial susceptibility clonal type order define the endemic clones those hospitals. The hybridization Cla I restriction digests with mecA - Tn 554 -specific DNA probes combined pulsed-field gel electrophoresis chromosomal Sma ( I- :: I-Tn ::PFGE types)...
ABSTRACT Between 1997 and 2000 a single multidrug-susceptible methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus clone, M (sequence type 30 [ST30]-staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec [SCC ] IV), was present in pediatric hospital Mexico City, Mexico. In 2001 the international multidrug-resistant New York-Japan clone (ST5-SCC II) introduced into hospital, completely replacing by 2002.
Biofilm production has been established as a virulence factor which allows Staphylococcus to adhere and persist in medical devices. The objective was determine whether therapeutic failure patients infected with spp. is linked biofilm production, the presence of ica operon, bacterial insertion sequence element IS256.Staphylococcus isolates from device-related infections were collected. Therapeutic proper antimicrobial treatment registered. phenotype determined by Congo red test agar...
Abstract Four patients who had received tick bites while visiting forests in Mexico skin lesions that met the case definition of erythema migrans, or borrelial lymphocytoma. Clinical diagnosis was supported with histologic, serologic, and molecular tests. This study suggests Borrelia burgdorferi infection is Mexico.
Antiretroviral therapies have proved life-saving in HIV infection, dramatically reducing morbidity and mortality. With longer survival, morbidities mortalities infection are increasingly similar to the associated with ageing. In treated risk of these is linked immune activation, inflammation coagulation indices. And persons failure restore circulating CD4 T cell numbers a greater as well heightened levels coagulation. The drivers incompletely defined could be related sustained low viral...
Background: SARS-COV2 appears less frequently and severely in the pediatric population than older age groups. There is a need to precisely estimate specific risks for each group design health education policies suitable population. Objective: This study aimed describe risk of death infected subjects by according presence comorbidities. Methods: We analyzed data confirmed infection cases where symptoms began between February 22th, 2020, April 18th, 2021, as published General Epidemiology...
combinations of drugs has been proposed as an alternative for oxacillin-resistant staphylococci infections, however, limited information about in vitro are available multi-resistant strains. The objective this study was to describe the interaction beta-lactams combination with vancomycin or amikacin against 26 oxacillin and amikacin-resistant nosocomial Staphylococcus spp. isolates. activity dicloxacillin plus amikacin, cephalothin vancomycin, imipenem evaluated by checkerboard synergy tests...
The aim of this study is to describe the percentile distribution waist circumference in Mexican pre-pubertal children living an urban, middle-income area.Children, aged 6-10, from a primary school, located area Mexico City were included (n=833). Anthropometric measurements made case all by using standardized procedures. The prevalence obesity and overweight was greater among boys (p<0.001). Of them, 30 obese (7.2%) 47 (11.4%). Girls had 2.8% 8.8%. Boys than girls This observation independent...
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect dental state on capacity elderly individuals carry out their daily activities during previous six months.A transversal conducted in Mexican Institute Social Security (IMSS) with insured persons residing southwestern Mexico City. Home interviews were gather sociodemographic data, data use oral health services, problems carrying activities, and relationship dentition over past months, utilizing Oral Impacts Daily Performance (OIDP) index. Later,...
To identify factors associated with root caries development in a 12- month period, an elderly Mexican population, so as to develop prediction model for the occurrence of caries.A case-cohort study was carried out 698 randomly selected beneficiaries Institute Social Security (IMSS), residing southeast Mexico City. Initially, base line (t₀) data regarding sociodemographic variables, general health, and oral healthy habits, salivary conditions, cariogenic microorganisms health clinical...
Objective. To establish the current situation of antimicrobial resistance and antibiotic consumption in Mexican hospitals. Materials methods. Antimicrobial susceptibility data from blood urine isolates were collected. Defined daily dose (DDD) consumption/100 occupied beds (OBD) was calculated. Results. Study period: 2016 2017. Of 4 382 isolates, E. coli K. pneumoniae most frequently reported, with >30% for drugs tested, only carbapenems amikacin <20%. A. baumannii had resistance...
Objectives: To evaluate and compare lactobacilli species (LB) mutans streptococci (MS) caries risk identification by means of a Caries Risk Test Bacteria (CRT test), with conventional laboratory test (CLT), as well their correlation the dental experience [(decayed‐missing‐filled teeth (DMFT index)] in subjects 60 years age older. Design: Cross‐sectional study. Setting: Epidemiologic Health Service Research Unit, Aging Area. XXI Century National Medical Center; Mexican Institute Social...
Abstract Human monocytic ehrlichiosis is a febrile illness caused by Ehrlichia chaffeensis, an intracellular bacterium transmitted ticks. In Mexico, case of E. chaffeensis infection in immunocompetent 31-year-old woman without recognized tick bite was fatal. This diagnosis should be considered for patients with fever, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and elevated liver enzyme levels.
Introduction of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV) targeted against a limited number serotypes substantially decreased invasive (IPD) and non-invasive diseases (NIPD) but it was accompanied by non-vaccine type replacement disease. After 9 years introduction PCV in Mexico, we analyze the evidence indirect effects on IPD NIPD serotype distribution among groups not to receive vaccine. From January 2000 December 2014, strains isolated from cases patients ≥5 age participant hospitals SIREVA II...
ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to determine the distribution serotypes and antimicrobial susceptibilities Streptococcus pneumoniae clinical isolates causing invasive non-invasive disease in children aged ≤60 days hospitals Mexico.MethodsA 15-year retrospective conducted for period 2000 2014. Pneumococcal were serotyped by Quellung reaction, susceptibility testing performed with broth microdilution method.ResultsA total 126 pneumococcal collected. Pneumonia most frequent diagnosis...
Facial palsy is the most frequent manifestation of neuroborreliosis in United States, Europe, and Asia, whereas Mexico, its frequency unknown. We aimed to determine Borrelia spp. infection patients with acute facial Mexico. In this cross-sectional, referral hospital-based survey, 191 were selected clinical epidemiologic data recorded. IgM IgG serum antibodies burgdorferi tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) confirmed Western-Blot (WB). against herpes viruses HSV-1, HSV-2,...
Background: Febrile neutropenia (FN) is a common complication in children who receive chemotherapy for cancer. Objective:The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy continuous versus intermittent infusion piperacillin/ tazobactam (TZP) febrile neutropenic pediatric patients. Methods: This non-blinded randomized controlled trial.Eligible group consisted hemato-oncological patients with FN were candidates TZP. Patients one two groups: Group 1 received antibiotic treatment...
