To investigate the antimicrobial resistance, extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) and clones of Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates causing bacteraemia or urinary tract infection (UTI) in Korea, a total 406 K. from patients with (221 isolates) UTI (185 were collected 10 tertiary-care Korean hospitals July 2006 to October 2007. In vitro susceptibility testing was performed for all ESBL production tested. Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) analyses characterize genotypes ESBL-producing...
Acinetobacter species have emerged as opportunistic nosocomial pathogens in intensive care units. Epidemic spread and outbreaks of multidrug-resistant or carbapenem-resistant baumannii infections been described worldwide. Species distribution, antimicrobial resistance genotypes were investigated for isolates collected from a single institution Korea over 7 years. Two hundred eighty-seven patients with bloodstream one Korean hospital 2003 to 2010. Most them belonged the...
Two Gram-stain-negative, non-fermentative bacterial strains, designated 11-0202 T and 11-0607, were isolated from soil in South Korea, four others, LUH 13522, 8638, 10268 10288, a beet field Germany, the Netherlands, sediment of integrated fish farms Malaysia Thailand, respectively. Based on 16S rRNA, rpoB gyrB gene sequences, they are considered to represent novel species genus Acinetobacter . Their rRNA sequences showed greatest pairwise similarity beijerinckii NIPH 838 (97.9–98.4 %). They...
ABSTRACT Patients with Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS) have low bone mass and an atypical skeletal geometry that manifests in a high risk of fractures. Using both vitro vivo models HGPS, we demonstrate defects the canonical WNT/β-catenin pathway, seemingly at level efficiency nuclear import β-catenin, impair osteoblast differentiation restoring β-catenin activity rescues significantly improves mass. Specifically, show HGPS patient-derived iPSCs display differentiation,...
BACKGROUNDPemphigus, a rare autoimmune bullous disease mediated by antidesmoglein autoantibodies, can be controlled with systemic medication like rituximab and high-dose corticosteroids combined immunosuppressants. However, some patients continue to experience chronically recurrent blisters in specific area require long-term maintenance therapy.METHODSSkin chronic was obtained from pemphigus. Immunologic properties of the skin were analyzed immunofluorescence staining, bulk single-cell RNA...
A chitinase gene (pCHI52) encoding the 52-kDa was isolated from a Serratia marcescens KCTC2172 cosmid library. This consists of 2526 bp with an open reading frame that encodes 485 amino acids. Escherichia coli harboring pCHI52 secreted not only but also 35-kDa into culture supernatant. We purified both and chitinases using chitin affinity column Sephacryl-S-300 gel filtration chromatography. determined 17 N-terminal acid sequences are identical. Furthermore, protease obtained S. cleaved...
There is no gold standard for the treatment of benign melanocytic nevi cosmetic purposes. To investigate efficacy and safety combined with short-pulsed erbium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Er:YAG) long-pulsed alexandrite laser acquired (AMN) small congenital (CMN).Fifty-eight AMN 7 CMN in 24 Korean patients were treated Er:YAG followed by at 1-month intervals. At 8 weeks after final treatment, all showed complete removal pigmentation, mean overall improvement score assessed physicians, a quartile...
We investigated fosfomycin susceptibility in Escherichia coli clinical isolates from South Korea, including community-onset, hospital-onset, and long-term care facility (LTCF)-onset isolates. The resistance mechanisms genotypes of fosfomycin-resistant were also identified. Finally, the vitro efficacy combinations with other antibiotics examined susceptible or extended spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing E. rate was 6.7% significantly higher LTCF-onset than community-onset hospital-onset...
Phytophotodermatitis is a condition that occurs by contact with plants containing phototoxic agents such as furocoumarins and psoralens subsequent ultraviolet exposure. typically presents sharply defined erythematous patches occasional blistering, sometimes accompanied pain or itching sensation. In some cases, however, sudden appearance of asymptomatic hyperpigmentation can be the only clinical finding phytophotodermatitis. Here, we present two patients development pigmentation on their hand...
Olmsted syndrome (OS) is a rare congenital skin disorder characterized by severe palmoplantar and periorificial keratoderma, alopecia, onychodystrophy, pruritus.Recently, pathogenic 'gain-of-function' mutations of the transient receptor potential vanilloid 3 gene (TRPV3), which encodes cation channel involved in keratinocyte differentiation proliferation, hair growth, inflammation, pain pruritus, have been identified to cause OS.Due rarity, pattern inheritance OS still unclear. We report case...
This study reports for the first time AbaR4-type resistance island with bla(OXA-23) gene in two carbapenem-resistant A. nosocomialis isolates from South Korea and Thailand.
In this study, we investigated the characteristics of KPC-2-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (KP-Kp) isolates from a hospital in South Korea. Among 37 KP-Kp isolates, two main clones were identified—ST11 and ST307. ST11 showed higher minimum inhibitory concentrations for carbapenems than ST307 isolates. All resistant to gentamicin trimethoprim–sulfamethoxazole, but not. However, most tigecycline-resistant or colistin-resistant belonged ST11. The different combinations wzi K serotypes....
Saline groundwater, collected from the east coast of Korea, has been shown to have protective effects against 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene- (DNCB-) induced atopic dermatitis-like skin lesions in murine model. To determine saline groundwater solution baths as a treatment mild-to-moderate dermatitis.Twenty-four subjects with dermatitis were instructed take bath for 20 minutes per day two weeks. Evaluations performed at baseline and week 2, including SCORing Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) index,...
major amastin antigen in BALB/c mice model. We evaluated the immunogenicity and protective efficacy of plasmid DNA vaccines encoding amastin-Enhanced Green Fluorescent Protein (EGFP) VP22-amastin-EGFP.Optimal cellmediated immune responses were observed immunized with VP22-amastin-EGFP as assessed by cytokine gene expression analysis using real time RT-PCR.Vaccination fusion construct elicited significantly higher IFN-g response upon stimulation splenocytes from compared to administration VP22...
