A group of seven bacterial strains producing blue-purple pigmented colonies on R2A agar was isolated from freshwater samples collected in a deglaciated part James Ross Island and Eagle Island, Antarctica, 2017–2019. The isolates were psychrophilic, oligotrophic, resistant to chloramphenicol, exhibited strong hydrolytic activities. To clarify the taxonomic position these isolates, polyphasic approach applied based sequencing 16S rRNA, gyrB lepA genes, whole-genome sequencing, rep-PCR,...

Given the great biological importance and high diversity of temperate Staphylococcus aureus bacteriophages, a method is needed for description their genomic structure. Here we have updated multiplex PCR strategy complex characterization S. phages family Siphoviridae. Based on comparative analysis available phage sequences, multilocus typing major modules genome was designed. The were classified basis genes integrase (10 types), anti-repressor (five replication proteins polA, dnaC dnaD (four...

Four rod-shaped and Gram-stain-negative bacterial strains, CCM 8647, 8649T, 8643T 8648T, were isolated from rock samples collected on James Ross Island, Antarctica. Extensive biotyping, fatty acid profiling, chemotaxonomy, 16S rRNA gene sequencing whole-genome was applied to isolates clarify their taxonomic position. Phylogenetic analysis based indicated that all four belonged the genus Hymenobacter. Strains 8649T 8647 most closely related Hymenobacter arizonensis OR362-8T (94.4 % sequence...

A taxonomic study performed on 17 Gram-stain-negative rod-shaped bacterial strains originating from the Antarctic environment is described. Initial phylogenetic analysis using 16S rRNA gene sequencing differentiated into four groups belonging to genus Pedobacter but they were separated all hitherto described species. Group I (n=8) was closest aquatilis (97.8 % sequence similarity). II (n=2) and group III (n=4) closely related (98.8 similarity) had jejuensis as their common nearest neighbour....

A set of 25 urease-producing, yellow-pigmented enterococci was isolated from environmental sources. Phenotypic classification divided the isolates into two phena. Both phena were characterized using 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, DNA base composition, rep-PCR fingerprinting and automated ribotyping. The obtained data distinguished all members genus Enterococcus with validly published names placed them in faecalis species group. DNA-DNA hybridization experiments, pheS rpoA sequencing...
