集中治療室におけるリハビリテーション医療の今後とその課題について，これまでの背景と現状調査からどうあるべきか解説した．現場ではリハビリテーション科医のチーム参加が熱望されているが十分に参画できていない．マンパワーの不足は明確だが，集中治療医とリハビリテーション科医のコラボレーションで相互に補完しあえる．リハビリテーション科医は生活につながる活動を育む診療によりPICSの予防から治療まで対応できる．今後は日本集中治療医学会との連携を通して理学療法士，作業療法士，言語聴覚士などリハビリテーションスタッフに寄り添いながら教育しチームビルディングをしていくことが重要である．
