In double-blind, placebo-controlled trials, budesonide–formoterol used on an as-needed basis resulted in a lower risk of severe exacerbation asthma than use short-acting β2-agonist (SABA); the was similar to that budesonide maintenance therapy plus SABA. The availability data from clinical trials designed better reflect practice would be beneficial.

Introduction The use of pressurised metered-dose inhalers (pMDIs) and asthma exacerbations necessitating healthcare reviews contribute substantially to the global carbon footprint healthcare. It is possible that a reduction in could be achieved by switching patients with mild from salbutamol pMDI reliever-based therapy inhaled corticosteroid-formoterol dry powder inhaler (DPI) reliever therapy, as recommended Global Initiative for Asthma. Methods This post hoc analysis included all 668 adult...

Abstract Fresh frozen plasma (FFP) has been proposed as a specific therapy for acute pancreatitis. Reduced mortality encountered in an uncontrolled clinical study and controlled experimental may be attributable to replenishment by FFP of the naturally occurring antiprotease system. To investigate this potential further, 202 patients presenting with pancreatitis were randomized receive (2 units daily 3 days) or similar volume colloid control part their intravenous fluid therapy. The clinical utility of serum periostin as a type 2 biomarker in asthma is limited by lack reference range values derived from population without respiratory disease. To derive age- and sex-related intervals for an adult or COPD.Serum levels were measured 480 individuals, comprising 60 female male adults each the 18- to 30-year, 31- 45-year, 46- 60-year 61- 75-year age groups. Key exclusion criteria included doctor's diagnosis asthma, chronic bronchitis COPD, history wheezing use inhalers...

Background Asthma is the most common chronic childhood respiratory condition globally. Inhaled corticosteroid (ICS)–formoterol reliever-based regimens reduce risk of asthma exacerbations compared with conventional short-acting β 2 -agonist (SABA) in adults and adolescents. The current limited evidence for anti-inflammatory reliever therapy children means it unknown whether these findings are also applicable to children. High-quality randomised controlled trials (RCTs) needed. Objective study...

Background International asthma guidelines recommend inhaled corticosteroid (ICS)/formoterol in preference to short-acting beta 2 -agonist (SABA) reliever-based regimens as reliever therapy adults and adolescents of all severities. A major limitation this recommendation is the absence randomised controlled trial (RCT) efficacy safety data for approach patients who continue use maintenance ICS. The anti-inflammatory effect ICS/formoterol on airway inflammation also not well characterised....
