In chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR), fluid accumulates in the subretinal space. CSCR is a common visually disabling condition that develops individuals up to 60 years of age, and there no definitive treatment. Previous research suggests mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist, eplerenone, effective for treating CSCR; however, this drug not licensed treatment patients with CSCR. We aimed evaluate whether eplerenone was superior placebo terms improving visual acuity CSCR.This...
To evaluate the safety and efficacy of repeat injections Brimonidine Drug Delivery System (Brimo DDS) Generation 2 (Gen 2) containing 400-μg brimonidine in patients with geographic atrophy (GA) secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD).A phase IIb, randomized, multicenter, double-masked, sham-controlled, 30-month study (BEACON).Patients diagnosed GA AMD multifocal lesions total area > 1.25 mm2 ≤ 18 eye.Enrolled were randomized treatment intravitreal Brimo DDS (n = 154) or sham...
Visual Acuity (VA) and structural biomarker assessment before at 24-months after early detection routine treatment of second eye involvement with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) additional comparison the first affected. Prospective, 22-centre observational study participants unilateral nAMD in Early Detection Neovascular AMD (EDNA) study, co-enrolled into Observing fibrosis, atrophy subretinal highly reflective material, intervention anti-VEGF (FASBAT) for an 2-year...
Purpose: To evaluate whether the measurement of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness using optical coherence tomography (OCT) changes after cataract surgery. Methods: This prospective, randomized, observational, cross-sectional clinical study included 24 eyes patients who underwent phacoemusification with implant. All had no preexisting or optic pathology other media opacities that might influence RNFL thickness. The classification and grading were based on Lens Opacities...
Purpose: To evaluate macular thickness measurements in normal subjects from British origin, to assess interocular asymmetry using optical coherence tomography (OCT) and establish standard values for foveal thickness. Methods: Two hundred eyes of 100 individuals underwent serial scans fast map protocol the Stratus OCT version 3.51, with fixation. Minimum (MFT), central 1 mm average (AFT), total volume (TFV) (TMV at 6 mm) both were assessed. The was measured statistically analyzed. Results:...
Purpose . To assess the safety profile of ranibizumab 0.5 mg in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) routine clinical practice. Methods This 2-year, multicentre, observational study was conducted to capture real-world early practice and outcomes across Europe, shortly after European licensing for nAMD. Being nature, did not impose diagnostic/therapeutic interventions/visit schedule. Patients were be treated as per EU summary product characteristics (SmPC) effect...
To determine whether the severity of retinopathy is higher in a group NIDDM patients with sBP greater than or equal to 140 mmHg compared less mmHg.Ophthalmoscopy and FAG were conducted among either above (n = 54) below 55) mmHg. The groups matched according diabetes duration, metabolic control (HbA1c), AER.Patients had prevalence retinopathy, as established rating scale (4.9 +/- 3.8 vs. 3.2 3.3, P 0.02); furthermore, their BMI values (28.1 4.5 24.9 4.1 kg/m2, 0.001). normotensive subjects...

Objective:
To report the prevalence of age-related maculopathy (ARM) in Salandra, a small, isolated southern Italian community, to test hypothesis that an environmental factor, scarce such remote community but ubiquitous modern industrial societies, might modify risk developing ARM.
Design:
Population-based cross-sectional survey.
Main Outcome Measures:
Prevalence advanced macular degeneration (ARMD) (geographic atrophy or exudative maculopathy) and ARM (large,...
Patients who were enrolled in a controlled treatment trial of laser grid photocoagulation for retinal pigment epithelial detachment as part age-related maculopathy reviewed 4 years after entry into the trial. The data imply that original conclusion this form did not improve visual prognosis at 18 months was also justified years. It has become clear lesions with evidence subpigment new vessels included In retrospective study separated those which there subretinal neovascularisation and no...
Our aim was to assess retinal venous diameter and segmented layer thickness variation in acute systemic hypoxia with without acetazolamide relate these changes high altitude headache (HAH), as a proxy for intracerebral pathophysiology.A total of 20 subjects participated 4-day ascent the Margherita Hut (4,559 m) on Monte Rosa Italian Alps. Each participant randomized either oral 250 mg twice daily or placebo. A combination digital imaging optical coherence tomography used measure vessel...
We report a complication that occurred during clear corneal phacoemulsification. When saline was injected hydrodissection with 27-gauge J-shaped cannula attached to 2.0 mL luer-lock polypropylene syringe, the dislodged and slipped behind iris, hooking lens equator. Although carefully removed, 3 clock hours of zonular dialysis were observed between 4 o'clock 7 meridians. After phacoemulsification, aspiration, in-the-bag intraocular implantation, vitreous noted inferiorly anterior vitrectomy completed.
A 19-year-old woman presented with a 4-week history of headache, ataxia, vertigo, confusion, intermittent blurred vision in the right eye and hearing loss. MRI revealed white matter lesions ‘pepper pot’ corpus callosum. The cerebrospinal fluid had raised protein lymphocytes. Fundal examination multiple peripheral arterial occlusions both eyes confirmed fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA). diagnosis Susac's syndrome was made. patient initially treated steroids, followed by azathioprine...

We report a case of intraoperative orbital haemorrhage as complication endoscopic sinus surgery performed under general anaesthesia. Initial unilateral complete visual loss occurred, but recovered due to accurate and early diagnosis combined with urgent surgical intervention. This patient's is reported illustrate the importance recognition clinical signs how stepwise approach management can result in favourable outcome. Moreover, mechanisms pathophysiology following are discussed.
