Visible-light-induced specific desulfurization of cysteinyl peptides has been explored. The photocatalytic catalyzed by Ru(bpy)32+ can proceed efficiently at room temperature in aqueous solution or binary mixtures aqueous/organic solvent and be compatible with the presence residues amino acids, carbohydrates, various sulfur-containing functional groups. This approach was successfully applied to synthesize linear cyclic through ligation–desulfurization protocol.

An efficient N-linked glycosylation reaction between glycosylamines and p-nitrophenyl thioester peptides has been developed. The conditions are mild compatible with the C-terminal free carboxylic acid group unprotected sialyloligosaccharide. Along with N-hydroxysuccinimidyl, p-nitrophenyl, and phenylseleno esters, tetra- penta-fluorophenyl esters were comparatively evaluated in term of their reactivity hydrolytic stability. Their homobifunctional cross-linkers prepared to conjugate proteins small molecules, including carbohydrates, fluorescent dyes, poly(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ether.
