Fever tends to start at a lower level of parasitemia in Plasmodium vivax or ovale than P. falciparum malaria, but hyperparasitemia and complications are more likely occur malaria. Therefore, we compared the relationship between host response parameters before therapy 97 patients with faciparum malaria (18 complications), 28 malaria. In both types correlated blood levels tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), Thrombin-antithrombin III (TAT) elastase, these were...

Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is fatal in 10 to 40% of cases. It caused by CCHF virus (CCHFV). Symptoms include fever, headache, myalgia, and often hemorrhage other complications. This report shows that may resemble HELLP syndrome (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelets). We a pregnant mother with suspected syndrome, who survived, her infant (week 36), died six days after C-section. The high viral load bacterial sepsis have jointly contributed the death infant. should be...

ABSTRACT To date, there have been conflicting reports concerning the clinical significance of nitric oxide (NO) in Plasmodium falciparum malaria. Some authors proposed that NO contributes to development severe and complicated malaria, while others argued has a protective role. investigate these apparently contradictory reports, reverse transcription-coupled PCR was used study inducible synthase (iNOS) whole-blood RNA samples from patients with malaria or uncomplicated healthy donors. Organ failure in Plasmodium falciparum malaria is associated with neutrophil activation and endothelial damage. This study investigates whether neutrophil-induced damage involves apoptosis it can be prevented by neutralization of secretory products. ABSTRACT Levels of soluble Fas ligand (sFasL) in serum were elevated patients with Plasmodium falciparum malaria and showed a significant decline during disease course. sFasL levels that before antimalarial treatment began correlated significantly depressed total lymphocyte T-cell counts. These data suggest Fas-induced apoptosis might play role malaria-associated lymphopenia.

Summary We used thrombomodulin (TM) to assess the participation of vascular endothelium in human Plasmodium falciparum (P. F.) malaria. Before therapy TM plasma levels were elevated P. F. malaria and fell normal values during therapy. Parasitemia, TNFα, elastase TAT correlated directly with TM. Elevated can not be explained by increased synthesis, since incubating HUVEC pretherapy serum patients malaria, but reconvalescence serum, suppressed transcription. This was partially prevented adding...

A 40-year-old Asian circus elephant developed mouth and trunk ulcers. Three weeks later, her 19-year-old animal warden noticed a vesicle on his forearm, evolving into scab. Identical cowpox strains were isolated from lesions of the warden. Cowpox virus could no longer be after scab disappeared, but PCR still revealed orthopox DNA. Healing was complete seven leaving 1 cm scar.

Abstract During 2013–2016, a total of 32 patients were treated for Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever in Prishtina, Kosovo; 11 died. In the who died, findings included viral loads >1 × 108.5/mL, lactate dehydrogenase >2,700 U/mL, bleeding, and impaired consciousness. Ribavirin therapy had no noticeable effect this small patient sample.
