In summer 2012, an outbreak of hantavirus infections occurred among overnight visitors to Yosemite National Park in California, USA. We report a case of Lassa fever in US traveler who visited rural Liberia, became ill while country, sought medical care upon return to the United States, and subsequently had his illness laboratory confirmed. The patient recovered with supportive therapy. No secondary cases occurred.

We report a fatal case of Lassa fever diagnosed in the United States Liberian traveler. describe infection control protocols and public health response. During follow-up of a 2012 US outbreak lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV), we conducted trace-forward investigation. LCMV-infected feeder mice originating from rodent breeding facility had been distributed to >500 locations in 21 states. All the were euthanized, and no additional persons tested positive for LCMV infection.
