Objectives To examine the association among acute bronchiolitis-related hospitalisation in children, meteorological variation and outdoor air pollution. Methods We obtained daily counts of admission children≤2 years old from all public hospitals, data pollutants’ concentrations between 1 January 2008 31 December 2017 Hong Kong. used quasi-Poisson generalised additive models together with distributed lag non-linear to estimate associations interest adjusted for confounders. Results A total 29...
We compared viral load of emerging recombinant norovirus GII.P16-GII.2 with those for pandemic GII.Pe-GII.4 and epidemic GII.P17-GII.17 genotypes among inpatients in Hong Kong. Viral was higher than other different age groups. is as replication competent the genotype, explaining its high transmissibility widespread circulation.
Tools to detect human norovirus infectivity have been lacking. Using intestinal enteroid cultures inoculated with GII.Pe-GII.4 Sydney-infected fecal samples, we determined that a real-time reverse transcription PCR cycle threshold cutoff of 30 may indicate infectious norovirus. This finding could be used help guide infection control.
Owing to the frequent travel connections between Wuhan and Zhejiang, Zhejiang was third worst-affected province in China with 1,205 cases confirmed before 26 February 2020. The transmissibility of 2019 novel coronavirus disease monitored accounting for transmissions from imported cases. Even though one provinces, an interruption transmission (i.e. instantaneous reproduction numbers <1) observed early/mid-February after a comprehensive set interventions combating outbreak.
We report a new norovirus GII.4 variant, Hong Kong, with low-level circulation in 4 Eurasia countries since mid-2017. Amino acid substitutions key residues on the virus capsid associated emergence of pandemic noroviruses suggest that Kong has potential to become next variant.
Despite high incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) among patients hospitalised for influenza, no previous work has attempted to analyse and quantify the association between two. Herein, we made use Hong Kong's surveillance data evaluate time-varying relationship seasonal influenza risk AKI with adjustment potential environmental covariates. Generalized additive model was used in conjunction distributed-lag non-linear estimate interest daily admissions as outcome predictor, while controlling...
Abstract We report emerging subtropical bimodal seasonality and alternating predominance of norovirus GII.4 non-GII.4 genotypes in Hong Kong. predominated summer autumn months affected young children, whereas emergent winter all age groups. This highly dynamic epidemiology should inform vaccination strategies.
Norovirus is the leading cause of acute gastroenteritis worldwide. The pathogenesis norovirus and induced immune response remain poorly understood due to lack a robust virus culture system. monolayers two secretor-positive Chinese human intestinal enteroid (HIE) lines were challenged with pandemic GII.4 Sydney strains. RNA replication in supernatants cell lysates quantified by RT-qPCR. expression levels immune-related genes profiled using PCR arrays. secreted protein shortlisted upregulated...
In China, children aged <8 months, who were expected to be protected by maternal antibodies before receiving the first dose of measles vaccine, age group with greatest risk infection in recent years. this study, we evaluated whether infants yet age-eligible for vaccine had a sufficient seropositive level 2009 and 2013. Blood samples collected from months through population-based serological surveys conducted Zhejiang, China. Serum levels immunoglobulin G quantified using enzyme-linked...
Abstract Background Due to variations in climatic conditions, the effects of meteorological factors and PM 2.5 on influenza activity, particularly subtropical regions, vary existing literature. In this study, we examined relationship between parameters, . Methods A total 20 165 laboratory‐confirmed cases Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, were documented our dataset aggregated into weekly counts for downstream analysis. We employed a combination quasi‐Poisson‐generalized additive model distributed...
Background Monitoring the reproduction number ( R t ) of disease could help determine whether there is sustained transmission in a population, but areas with similar epidemic trends have different dynamics given risk from imported cases varied across regions. In this study, we examined coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) by taking into account and compared transmissibility COVID-19 at intervention periods Hangzhou Shenzhen. Methods We obtained daily aggregated counts laboratory-confirmed local...
Abstract Background Monitoring the time-varying reproduction number ( R t ) of disease is useful in determining whether there sustained transmission a population. In this study, we examined COVID-19 and compared its transmissibility between different intervention periods Hangzhou Shenzhen. Methods Daily aggregated counts confirmed imported local cases January 1, 2020 March 13, were analysed. A likelihood function was constructed to estimate , accounting for cases. Results Although had fewer...
The 2009 province-wide and 2010 nationwide supplementary immunization activities (SIAs) greatly reduced measles prevalence in Guangdong, a province southern China with the largest migrant population. However, during 2013-2014, Guangdong experienced resurgence of epidemic. This study was performed to examine association between infections migrants epidemic. The records 22 362 clinically laboratory-confirmed cases from years 2014 were extracted National Infectious Disease Monitoring Information...
While many studies have focused on identifying the association between meteorological factors and activity of COVID-19, we argue that contribution to a reduction risk COVID-19 was minimal when effects control measures were taken into account. In this study, assessed how much variability in is attributable city-level socio-demographic characteristics, factors, imposed. We obtained daily incidence data from total 102 cities situated 27 provinces/municipalities outside Hubei province China 1...
Background: Supplementary immunization activities (SIAs) have been demonstrated being effective in reducing measles incidence within a short period of time China, but the effects are short-lived if there is no follow-up SIA with high routine coverage. Objectives: To assess change seroprevalence from 2009 to 2013 after launch 2 large-scale SIAs period. Methods: Three population-based cross-sectional serologic surveys antibodies were conducted 2009, 2011 and Zhejiang, province eastern samples...
Abstract We monitored the transmissibility of 2019 novel coronavirus disease in Zhejiang accounting transmissions from imported cases. Even though is one worst-affected provinces, an interruption transmission (i.e. instantaneous reproduction numbers <1) was observed early/mid-February after early social-distancing response to outbreak.
