Vibrio fluvialis is a foodborne pathogen known to cause cholera-like gastroenteritis syndrome. Here we report the first case of V. liver abscess and bacteremia presumed be from sashimi, Japanese raw seafood delicacy. We also provide literature review reported cases extra-intestinal diseases including bacteremia.
Jamestown Canyon virus (JCV) is a mosquito-borne orthobunyavirus that causes acute febrile illness, meningitis, and meningoencephalitis, primarily in North American adults. Currently, there are no available vaccines or specific treatments against JCV infections. The antiviral efficacy of favipiravir (FPV) infection was evaluated vitro vivo comparison with ribavirin (RBV) 2'-fluoro-2'-deoxycytidine (2'-FdC). The inhibitory effect these drugs on replication Vero Neuro-2a (N2A) cells. FPV the...
Mycobacterium haemophilum is a nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) with predilection for skin and soft tissue infection (SSTI) in the immunocompromised host. We report case of disseminated M initially presenting as nonresolving subacute cellulitis bilateral lower extremities. Genetic sequencing was used final identification, while commercially available polymerase chain reaction test returned false-positive result intracellulare. Consequently, we highlight importance major differential...
Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a common cause of acute hepatitis. Four major genotypes HEV have been studied, with genotype 4 being the predominant across Asia. We herein describe case 50-year-old man history human immunodeficiency (HIV) infection who was admitted transaminitis. Serum anti-HEV-IgA and HEV-RNA were detected at time presentation further testing revealed 4. To best our knowledge, this represents first clinical report symptomatic in an HIV-positive patient Japan.
Abstract: Lung transplantation in Japan is an increasingly accessible treatment option for end-stage lung disease; however, the lack of donor organs a persisting challenge. Five- and 10-year survival rates transplant recipients are comparable, if not superior, to international standards. The outcomes likely affected by multiple factors. Infectious disease complications significant burden account approximately 30% recipient mortality Japan, presenting major challenge peri-transplant...
Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a pathogen that causes hepatitis. There are few reports of HEV seroprevalence among people with human immunodeficiency (PWH) in Japan. This study aimed to determine the PWH at our hospital. Anti-HEV IgG was tested for using enzyme immunoassays and immunoblot assays. Clinical information obtained from medical records additional patient questionnaires. Sixty-eight were included this study. Four patients (5.9%) showed seropositivity both methods, while one (1.5%)...
Abstract Background Jamestown Canyon virus (JCV) is a mosquito-borne orthobunyavirus that causes acute febrile illness, meningitis, and meningoencephalitis, mainly among adults. JCV widely distributed in North America the number of cases U.S. has increased recent years. Therefore, central nervous system disease caused by can be considered potentially re-emerging viral disease. However, seroprevalence unknown Japan. The purpose this study to evaluate Japanese population. Methods We used an...
Abstract Background The current situation, challenges, and opportunities related to antimicrobial stewardship for solid organ transplantations (SOTs) patients in Japan are not well known. Methods We searched English Japanese literature using Pubmed Ichushi‐Web (the medical search system provided by the Medical Society) with relevant keywords including transplant, stewardship, Japan. Hand searches of references from retrieved literature, conference proceedings Association Infectious Diseases,...
Background: Approaches to the prescription behavior of broad-spectrum antibiotics, including preauthorization and prospective audit feedback (PAF), are a focus antimicrobial stewardship (ASP). However, preprescription behavior, such as blood-culture collection before empiric prescription, is understudied merits more attention given its influence on usage antibiotics. At University Tokyo Hospital, carbapenems subject PAF, which has resulted in compensatory increase piperacillin-tazobactam...
Abstract Background Antimicrobial allergy is common and encountered by healthcare providers. Inaccurate or incomplete information on antimicrobial leads to inappropriate selection. In the electronic health record (EHR), not only documented as free text but also listed in EHR section (EHR-AS). However, its quality has been well studied. Methods This was an observational study at academic medical center Tokyo, Japan. We included hospitalized patients who received infectious disease...
