This paper presents an efficient algorithm for iris recognition using phase-based image matching--an matching technique phase components in 2D Discrete Fourier Transforms (DFTs) of given images. Experimental evaluation CASIA databases (versions 1.0 and 2.0) Iris Challenge Evaluation (ICE) 2005 database clearly demonstrates that the use images makes possible to achieve highly accurate with a simple algorithm. also discusses major implementation issues our In order reduce size data prevent...

Significance Inhibitors of BRAF protein kinase, such as Vemurafenib and Dabrafenib, have shown remarkable antitumor activity in patients with mutant melanoma. However, most the developed drug resistance during course treatment, leading to resumed tumor growth. This challenge underscores need improve on current BRAF-targeted therapy. In this study, we that phenformin, a biguanide used for treating type 2 diabetes, enhances activities inhibitors both cultured melanoma cells genetically...

The efficacy of the local application recombinant human fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) in periodontal regeneration has been investigated. In this study, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted 253 adult patients with periodontitis. Modified Widman surgery performed, during which 200 µL investigational formulation containing 0% (vehicle alone), 0.2%, 0.3%, or 0.4% FGF-2 administered to 2- 3-walled vertical bone defects. Each dose showed significant...

ABSTRACT We investigated the efficacy, safety, and clinical significance of trafermin, a recombinant human fibroblast growth factor (rhFGF)-2, for periodontal regeneration in intrabony defects Phase III trials. Study A, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, was conducted at 24 centers. Patients with periodontitis 4-mm 3-mm or deeper probing pocket depth defects, respectively, were included. A total 328 patients randomly assigned (2:1) to receive 0.3% rhFGF-2...

Objective To assess the relationship between socioeconomic status (SES) and complications of type 2 diabetes among young adults in Japan. Design A cross-sectional study. Setting Outpatient wards 96 member hospitals clinics Japan Federation Democratic Medical Institutions. Participants total 782 outpatients with (525 males, 257 females), aged 20–40 years as March 31, 2012. After excluding 110 participants whose retinopathy diagnosis was question, 672 were analyzed. Measurements We examined...

Estimating human age from brain MR images is useful for early detection of Alzheimer's disease. In this paper we propose a fast and accurate method based on deep learning to predict subject's age. Compared with previous methods, our algorithm achieves comparable accuracy using fewer input images. With GPU version program, the time needed make prediction 20 ms. We evaluate methods mean absolute error (MAE) able MAE 4.0 years.

The mechanisms of TSH-induced growth stimulation thyrocytes in vivo have yet to be elucidated. We examined the antiapoptotic effect TSH toward Fas antigen-mediated apoptosis thyrocytes. antigen was expressed on approximately 40% unstimulated thyrocytes, and expression significantly inhibited by addition a dose-dependent manner. Treatment with 8-bromo-cAMP mimicked TSH, suggesting that inhibitory mediated activating protein kinase A. In contrast, treatment either interleukin-1 beta (IL-1...

Abstract: When treatment planning before placing dental implants in the posterior region of mandible, locations inferior alveolar nerve and mental foramen need to be ascertained, as they determine bone height available implant length selected. The purpose this study was introduce clinical application a newly developed compact computed tomography system (Ortho‐CT) assess three‐dimensional (3‐D) images for preoperative mandible. To evaluate 3‐D images, we scanned using Ortho‐CT mandible with...

A major approach for fingerprint recognition today is to extract minutiae from images and perform matching based on the number of corresponding pairings. One most difficult problems in has been that performance significantly influenced by fingertip surface condition, which may vary depending environmental or personal causes. Addressing this problem, paper presents a algorithm using phase-based image matching. The use phase components 2D (two-dimensional) discrete Fourier transforms makes...

We tested our hypothesis endogenous signals mediated by EpoR non-hematopoietic play a role against I/R injury.Transgene-rescued null mutant mice (RES), which express exclusively cells, were subjected to 30 min left coronary artery occlusion...

Low‐intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) is used for bone healing in orthopedics and dentistry. It has been shown that LIPUS induces the secretion of extracellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a key mediator osteoblast response to mechanical stimuli. However, detailed mechanism LIPUS‐induced osteogenesis elusive. In this study, we investigated role P2X7 receptor osteogenesis. induced release ATP, differentiation osteoblasts via receptor, without affecting activity alkaline phosphatase...
