The relationship between ultrasonic backscatter and collagen concentration estimated on the basis of hydroxyproline was examined in hearts from normal dogs subjected to ischemic injury by coronary occlusion as an approach toward elucidating physical mechanisms underlying scattering ultrasound soft tissue. Ultrasonic found increase significantly regions studied 5–17 weeks following occlusion. average coefficient six times larger infarct 8–10 after than that 5–6 In contrast, concentration, a...

Significance Although new-generation biomaterials are increasingly complex and sophisticated, their development remains largely empirical, functional outcomes difficult to predict. Extending the biological evaluation of beyond assessment preassumed effects would allow a better understanding material-driven cell responses. Here we illustrate how applying an objective, nondiscriminative approach explore global responses series bone substitutes with various compositions can uncover unexpected,...

The use of endosseous implants is firmly established in skeletal reconstructive surgery, with rapid and permanent fixation prostheses being a highly desirable feature. Implant coatings composed hydroxyapatite (HA) have become the standard been used some success prolonging time to revision but aseptic loosening remains significant issue. development new generation more biologically active promising approach for tackling this problem. Bioactive glasses are an ideal candidate material due...

Abstract Background A proportion of patients with foregut dysmotility fail to respond standard interventions. Motilin agonists may be beneficial in this group. We aimed determine the effect camicinal, a novel motilin agonist, on gastrointestinal physiology healthy volunteers. Methods Healthy male subjects were randomly assigned receive single dose 125 mg camicinal or placebo double‐blind cross‐over design. Esophageal function and reflux indices assessed using high‐resolution manometry (pre...

Diagnosis of invasive candidiasis (IC) is limited by insensitivity and slow turnaround cultures. Our objectives were to define the performance T2Candida, a nonculture test, under guidance diagnostic stewardship program, evaluate impact on time antifungal initiation utilization. This was retrospective study adult medical intensive care unit (MICU) patients with septic shock for whom T2Candida testing performed from March 2017 2020. Patients positive results during this period compared MICU who...

We utilize a real-time acoustic technique, based on pulse-echo measurements to detect formation of microbubbles in an aqueous solution silver/dendrimer nanocomposite (DNC). Wave-field plots successive recordings illustrate the generation and behavior bubbles created by optical breakdown process. A significant threshold reduction is achieved with DNC particles compared its host dendrimer, enabling diverse field low-threshold applications.

We propose using ultrasound to monitor the elastic property of intraocular lens as manipulated by a femtosecond pulsed laser. To demonstrate this method, and its zonules are extracted from postmortem human eye globe. Free ends attached an iris-like mechanical device that simulates accommodation muscles. The placed in saline bath scanned with microscope uses 50 MHz center frequency transducer 3 mm focus f/# 1.88. Thickness cross section images produced for relaxed state at radial deformation....

<h3>Introduction</h3> Heart failure has a worse survival rate than many common cancers, yet few patients receive any palliative care input during the course of their illness. One main difficulties in providing for heart is uncertainty around disease and patient′s life expectancy. The aim this study was to compare “Gold Standards Framework” (GSF) criteria, which were developed determine need non-cancer patients, with “Seattle Failure (SHF) Model”, provides method calculating predicted mean...

Laser induced optical breakdown (LIOB) can produce precise intracellular and intra-tissue effects. LIOB occurs where the threshold is exceeded, may be manipulated to target selectively areas within tissues while minimizing damage surrounding material. The measurable effects of localized breakdown, shock wave emission microbubble formation, signal targeted generate an object for sensitive acoustic detection potential manipulation. By varying laser pulse fluence, number, period, size stability...
