Abstract Purpose Carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT) relies on relative biological effectiveness (RBE)‐weighted dose calculations. Japanese clinics predominantly use the microdosimetric kinetic model (MKM), while European centers utilize local effect (LEM). Despite both models estimating RBE‐distributions in tissue, their physical and mathematical assumptions differ, leading to significant disparities RBE‐weighted doses. Several adopted treatment schedules, necessitating adjustments prescriptions...

In IMRT, the method for a quantitative comparison of two-dimensional dose distributions is still under development. The gamma evaluation proposed by Low et al most accepted approach and has been adapted many groups. Based on concept we developed software tool with an intelligent search algorithm to minimize calculation time. For interpretation deviations y angle distribution other tools (dose difference map, profiles, area histograms, etc) are integrated in package. Ten hybrid plans included...

In this paper, we investigate the possibility to use X-ray based real time 2D/3D registration for non-invasive tumor motion monitoring during radiotherapy. The scheme is implemented using general purpose computation on graphics hardware (GPGPU) programming techniques and several algorithmic refinements in process. Validation conducted off-line a phantom five clinical patient data sets. The performed region of interest (ROI) centered around planned target volume (PTV).The measured with an rms...

Abstract

Introduction
: Intracerebral radiation-induced contrast enhancement (RICE) can occur after photon as well proton beam therapy (PBT). This study evaluated the incidence, characteristics and risk factors of RICE PBT delivered to, or in direct proximity brain its impact on health-related quality life (HRQoL).
Material Method
Four hundred twenty-one patients treated by pencil beam-scanning between 2017 2021 were included. Follow-up included clinical evaluation...

The dose core of a proton pencil beam (PB) is enveloped by low area reaching several centimeters off the central axis and containing considerable amount dose. Adequate modeling different components PB profile is, therefore, required for accurate calculation. In this study, we experimentally validated one electromagnetic two nuclear scattering models in GATE/Geant4 calculation beams therapeutic energy window (62-252 MeV) with without range shifter (RaShi). The multiple Coulomb (MCS) model was...

Head and neck mucosal melanomas (HNMMs) are aggressive, radiotherapy-resistant cancers. Previous JCROS studies demonstrated improved local control with carbon-ion radiotherapy (CIRT). This study evaluates early outcomes of CIRT for HNMM using the European Japanese relative biological effectiveness (RBE)-adapted dose prescriptions. Between November 2019 April 2023, 14 patients received treatment. Postoperative R2 resection: 9 cases; biopsies only: 5 cases. Immune checkpoint inhibitors used as...

Purpose: In this article, the authors propose a new gold standard data set for validation of two‐dimensional/three‐dimensional (2D/3D) and 3D/3D image registration algorithms. Methods: A was produced using fresh cadaver pig head with attached fiducial markers. The used several imaging modalities common in diagnostic or radiotherapy, which include 64‐slice computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance Tl, T2, proton density sequences, cone beam CT data. Radiographic were acquired kilovoltage...
