A patient with a 20-year history of recurrent respiratory papillomatosis had progressive, bilateral tumor invasion the lung parenchyma. We used conditional reprogramming to generate cell cultures from patient's normal and tumorous tissue. Analysis revealed that laryngeal cells contained wild-type 7.9-kb human papillomavirus virus type 11 (HPV-11) genome, whereas pulmonary 10.4-kb genome. The increased size latter viral genome was due duplication promoter oncogene regions. Chemosensitivity...

This study aims to evaluate the feasibility and utility of a novel, open-source 3D printed simulator for practicing laryngeal surgery skills in clinic setting. Device development validation. A tertiary medical center. was created using computer-aided design software printed. Ten otolaryngology residents completed exercises utilizing flexible video laryngoscope visualization. The training involved 3 microsurgery tasks: (1) suture removal from simulated vocal cords, (2) silicone cord polyps,...

Study Design: Retrospective chart review. Methods: We performed a retrospective review patients with cutaneous at tertiary care center over 4‐year period. Only upper airway were studied. reviewed within course each patient. Results: Of 1,226 hemangiomas, 108 (9%) in distribution. There 56 (52%) who had V3 pattern, 16 (29%)...

Objective Phonosurgery requires technical precision and careful tissue handling. Typically, phonosurgical procedures require single‐operator techniques, making it difficult for novice residents to develop necessary skills. We developed a low‐cost phonosurgery simulator allow practice acquisition of microlaryngeal Study Design Validation study assessing the simulator's face content validity in surgical education. Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) is a benign neoplasm of the larynx caused mainly by human papillomavirus type 6 or 11 and its standard treatment involves repeated surgical debulking laryngeal tumors. However, significant morbidity occasional mortality due to multiple recurrences occur. Conditional reprogramming (CR) was used establish HPV-6 positive culture from an RRP patient, named GUMC-403. Pharyngoesophageal diverticulum is a rare complication following anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). Dysphagia well-documented associated with ACDF. It may result postoperatively from variety of etiologies, including hardware displacement, pharyngeal edema, or vocal fold paresis. One cause persistent dysphagia the formation hypopharyngeal diverticulum, reported in literature 9 previous cases. Such diverticula after ACDF surgery have pathogenesis that distinct typical Zenker...

Three cases are used to illustrate major principles involved in tracheostomy scars. Objective Vocal fold injection medialization (VFIM) is widely used as an initial treatment for unilateral vocal paralysis (UVFP). Current practices employ materials that share the limitation of temporary clinical effect from variable resorption rates. A novel silk protein microparticle‐hyaluronic acid‐based material (silk‐HA) has demonstrated cellular infiltration and tissue deposition may portend a durable effect. We report on ≥12 months outcomes after VFIM with silk‐HA. Methods Prospective...

Abstract Background Juvenile-onset recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (JO-RRP) is a human papilloma virus-mediated progressive benign neoplasm that affects children and young adults. Primary management consists of regular surgical debulking to maintain airway patency vocal function. Like condyloma acuminata, JO-RRP associated with immune dysregulation, T cells isolated from papillomas express an anergic phenotype. Therefore, we hypothesized programmed death protein 1 axis inhibition could...
