The coupling of oxetane (trimethylene oxide) and carbon dioxide catalyzed by VO(acac)2 in the presence an onium salt was studied. process found to be highly selective quantitative for production six-membered cyclic carbonate, trimethylene under very mild reaction conditions 60 °C 1.7 MPa. Other derivatives oxide were shown similarly selectively afford corresponding carbonates upon with CO2.

Due to their aerobic lifestyle, eukaryotic organisms have evolved different strategies overcome oxidative stress. The recruitment of some specific metalloenzymes such as superoxide dismutases (SODs) and catalases (CATs) is great importance for eliminating harmful reactive oxygen species (hydrogen peroxide anion). Using the ligand HPClNOL {1-[bis(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)amino]-3-chloropropan-2-ol}, we synthesized three coordination compounds containing iron(III), copper(II), manganese(II) ions,...

Toxoplasma gondii, the causative agent of toxoplasmosis, is an obligate intracellular protozoan that can infect a wide range vertebrate cells. Here, we describe cytotoxic effects dinuclear iron compound [Fe(HPCINOL)(SO4)]2-μ-oxo, in which HPCINOL ligand 1-(bis-pyridin-2-ylmethyl-amino)-3-chloropropan-2-ol, on T. gondii infecting LLC-MK2 host This was not toxic to cells at concentrations up 200 μM but very active against parasite, with 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) 3.6 after 48 h...

Gliomas are the most common type of primary brain tumors, presenting high mortality and recurrence rates that highlight need for development more efficient therapies. In context, we investigated iron(iii) (FeL) copper(ii) (CuL) complexes containing tetradentate ligand 2-{[(3-chloro-2-hydroxy-propyl)-pyridin-2-ylmethyl-amino]-methyl}-phenol (L) as potential antimetastatic compounds in glioma cells. These were designed to act mimetics antioxidant metalloenzymes (catalases superoxide dismutase)...

Herein, we report reactivity studies of the mononuclear water-soluble complex [Mn(II)(HPClNOL)(η1-NO3)(η2-NO3)] 1, where HPClNOL = 1-(bis-pyridin-2-ylmethyl-amino)-3-chloropropan-2-ol, toward peroxides (H2O2 and tert-butylhydroperoxide). Both catalase (in aqueous solution) peroxidase CH3CN) activities 1 were evaluated using a range techniques including electronic absorption spectroscopy, volumetry (kinetic studies), pH monitoring during H2O2 disproportionation, electron paramagnetic...

The development of metallodrugs with antioxidant activities is importance as a way to protect organisms exposed stressful conditions. Although iron chemistry in the presence H2O2 usually associated pro-oxidant activity, mainly via Fenton reaction, we found that mononuclear compound [Fe(HPClNOL)Cl2]NO3 (1; C15H18Cl3FeN4O4, = 8.7751(3) Å, b 9.0778(4) c 24.3869(10) β 93.370(2)°, monoclinic, P21/c, Z 4), containing tripodal ligand 1-[bis(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)amino]-3-chloropropan-2-ol, decomposes...

Aging is a natural process characterized by several biological changes. In this context, oxidative stress appears as key factor that leads cells and organisms to severe dysfunctions diseases. To cope with reactive oxygen species oxidative-related damage, there has been increased use of superoxide dismutase (SOD)/catalase (CAT) biomimetic compounds. Recently, we have shown three metal-based compounds {[Fe(HPClNOL)Cl2]NO3, [Cu(HPClNOL)(CH3CN)](ClO4)2 Mn(HPClNOL)(Cl)2}, harboring in vitro SOD...
