Abstract Aim The mid‐Miocene closure of the Tethys (Terminal Tethyan Event, TTE ) induced by collision African–Arabian plate with Eurasian is considered to be a major driver tropical marine biodiversity. We used intertidal talitrids Talorchestia sensu lato test hypothesis that can best explain current disjunct distribution this genus along Mediterranean‐East Atlantic and Indo‐West Pacific coastlines. Location Pacific. Methods sequenced four nuclear two mitochondrial loci for 87 samples...

Biological migrations between India and Southeast (SE) Asia provide an ideal system for exploring the effects of geology climate on species ranges. Geologists have confirmed that direct collision Eurasia occurred in Early Eocene, but most Indian subcontinent SE rather than former southern margin Eurasia. To explain this seemingly paradoxical disconnect routes plate movement biological migration, we studied evolutionary history tropical spider family Ochyroceratidae based 101 globally...

The withdrawal of the Tethys Sea and formation Alpine‐Himalayan orogenic belt profoundly impacted distribution composition terrestrial biota in Eurasia. However, studies that have explicitly addressed potential links between series tectonic activities Tethyan region extratropical biodiversity hotspots are rare. Spiders genus Pireneitega (Agelenidae) found throughout Eurasia show high species richness these hotspots. Thus, spiders may serve as a model group to shed light on how past events...

Lineages with low dispersal ability are geographically restricted. We used freshwater Gammarus to test this hypothesis. Sequences of two mitochondrial (cytochrome c oxidase subunit I and 16S) nuclear (28S cytosolic heat-shock protein) genes were obtained for seven species distributed in 28 localities along the Lüliang Taihang mountains China. Phylogenetic analyses showed that grouped into clades, one from range other range. Each clade was further divided three or four species, showing a...
