Streptococcus pyogenes causes mild human infections as well life-threatening invasive diseases. Since the mutations known to enhance virulence date account for only half of severe infections, additional mechanisms/mutations need be identified. Here, we conducted a genome-wide association study emm 89 S. strains comprehensively identify pathology-related bacterial genetic factors (SNPs, indels, genes, or k-mers). Japanese ( n =311) and global =666) cohort studies isolated from non-invasive...

To describe and correlate the clinical imaging findings of lymphomas in patients with Sjögren syndrome. The authors reviewed medical records 27 cases lymphoma from among a total 463 syndrome. The estimated prevalence syndrome was 5.8%. There were 22 women 5 men. Histopathologically, 26 neoplasms non-Hodgkin lymphoma, including 6 mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphomas, other neoplasm Hodgkin lymphoma. analyzed. No obvious correlations present between duration or severity development. At...
Frailty increases the risk of negative health-related events, such as falls, disability, hospitalizations, and death. Although association between oral health physical frailty is well established, relationship psychological has not yet been investigated. Therefore, we conducted a cross-sectional study to examine maximal occlusal force in Japanese community-dwelling older adults.Psychological was defined World Health Organization-5 scale (WHO-5) score <13, cognitive functional status version...
Purpose The purpose of this work was to compare the diagnostic accuracy MR sialography with that salivary gland scintigraphy in Sjögren syndrome. Method One hundred thirty patients clinically suspected having syndrome were examined by and scintigraphy. A labial biopsy performed all patients. Imaging findings compared results biopsy. Results From biopsy, diagnosis established 80 Abnormally high T2 signal intensity areas on decreased uptake delayed excretion [99mTc]pertechnetate well seen For...
We describe five cases of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma in patients with Sjögren's syndrome emphasis on the initial and follow-up imaging features. In three patients, initially arose salivary gland, two ocular adnexa. Two received no treatment but did have close for 15 months 2 years, respectively; progression disease was observed. In other although complete remission achieved primary site, spread to mucosal sites during periods 1, 3, 9 respectively. Our findings show that...
Grip strength and walking speed are considered to be important indicators of physical frailty. However, no study has contemporaneously examined any association multiple oral functions with grip speed. The purpose this was examine which associated muscle (grip strength), performance (walking speed) or both. participants were 511 community-dwelling people (254 men 257 women) aged 77–81 years old. Six functions—oral wetness, occlusal force, tongue-lip motor function, tongue pressure,...
This study aimed to investigate the association between number of teeth, food intake, and cognitive function in Japanese community-dwelling older adults.
causes over one million deaths from lower respiratory infections per annum worldwide. Although mortality is very high in Southeast Asian countries, molecular epidemiological information remains unavailable for some countries. In this study, we report, the first time, whole-genome sequences and genetic profiles of pneumococcal strains isolated Myanmar. We 60 streptococcal 300 children with acute infection at Yangon Children's Hospital obtained identified species, serotypes, sequence types,...
Purpose: Individuals with impaired masticatory function tend to prefer soft foods, which results in decreased muscle activity. This study examined the association between oral condition (number of teeth, occlusal force, and contact area) dietary hardness using a daily questionnaire.
Streptococcus pneumoniae is a major cause of pneumonia, sepsis, and meningitis. Previously, we identified novel virulence factor by investigating evolutionary selective pressure exerted on pneumococcal choline-binding cell surface proteins. Herein, focus another protein. Cell wall-anchoring proteins containing the LPXTG motif are conserved in Gram-positive bacteria. Our analysis showed that among examined genes, nanA bgaA had high proportions codon were under significant negative selection....
Abstract Background Many physical functions decline with aging, but it is not known whether oral vary according to sex or as occurs functions. The present study aimed examine the association of sex, age, and elapsed years occlusal force tongue pressure using a generalized linear mixed‐effect model (GLMM) over 3‐year period among old‐old Japanese adults. Methods Participants were community‐dwelling older adults who participated in survey (June 2014–March 2017) follow‐up (July 2017–December...
(18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography and computed (integrated FDG PET/CT) has been used to diagnose recurrence differentiate postoperative changes from lymph node metastasis in colorectal cancer, although its accuracy is questionable. We report a prone thoracoscopic surgery for rectal cancer patient which false-positive mediastinal nodes were found on FDG-PET/CT. A 60-year-old man underwent laparoscopic high anterior resection D3 dissection cancer. The...

Germline loss-of-function mutations in USP9X have been reported to cause a wide spectrum of congenital anomalies. Here, we report Japanese girl with novel heterozygous nonsense mutation who exhibited intellectual disability characteristic craniofacial abnormalities, including hypotelorism, brachycephaly, hypodontia, micrognathia, severe dental crowding, and an isolated submucous cleft palate. Our findings provide further evidence that disruptions contribute broad range abnormalities.

Abstract Objectives Streptococcus pyogenes is involved in a wide range of diseases, including pharyngitis and life-threatening invasive infections. Increasing prevalence antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has been reported worldwide various bacteria, limiting the use antibiotics infection cases. The present study investigated AMR most prevalent S. emm types, emm89 strains Japan. Methods A total 368 previously identified isolates (311 57 other types), which were isolated from patients with...
