We propose gauging matrix models of string theory to eliminate unwanted nonsinglet states. To this end we perform a discretized light-cone quantization large-$N$ gauge in 1 + dimensions, with scalar or fermionic matter fields transforming the adjoint representation $\mathrm{SU}(N)$. The entire spectrum consists bosonic and closed-string excitations, which are free as $N\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\infty}$. analyze general features such states function cutoff coupling, obtaining good...
Based on free text comments by 1191 students who participated in our national science and engineering fair (SEF) surveys during 2021-22 2022-23, we have learned new information about SEF participation student interest S&E. The positive reasons that mentioned most frequently why increased their S&E were: things; experience doing research; enjoyed/fun experience; career choice. negative was not fun/stressful/boring; a good project; interested science; required to participate. Overall,...
The high resolution X-Ray crystal spectrometer at the JET tokamak has been upgraded with main goal of measuring tungsten impurity concentration. This is important for understanding accumulation in plasma after installation ITER-like wall (main chamber: Be, divertor: W). contribution provides details a focus on aspects spectral analysis and parameter calculation. In particular, we describe determination sensitivity: concentration determination.
We calculate the light-cone wavefunctions of pion by solving meson boundstate problem in a coarse transverse lattice gauge theory using DLCQ. A large-N_c approximation is made and Hamiltonian expanded massive dynamical fields at fixed spacing. In contrast to earlier calculations, we include contributions from states containing many gluonic link-fields between quarks. The renormalised combination covariance conditions on boundstates fitting physical masses M_rho M_pi, decay constant f_pi,...
The KdV and modified integrable hierarchies are shown to be different descriptions of the same 2D gravitational system -- open-closed string theory. Non-perturbative solutions multi-critical unitary matrix models map non-singular `renormalisation group' equation for susceptibility, $[\tilde{P},Q]=Q$. We also demonstrate that large N integrals in external fields, studied by Gross Newman, equal pure closed-string
In this paper, we present the work in implementation of a new calibration for JET real-time polarimeter based on complex amplitude ratio technique and self-validation mechanism data. This allowed easy integration polarimetry measurements into plasma density control (gas feedback control) as well machine protection systems (neutral beam injection heating safety interlocks). The addition was used successfully during 2014 Campaign is envisaged that will operate routinely from 2015 campaign...
Abstract A sequence of fuel recovery methods was tested in JET, equipped with the ITER-like beryllium main chamber wall and tungsten divertor, to reduce plasma deuterium concentration less than 1% preparation for operation tritium. This also a key activity regard refining clean-up strategy be implemented at end 2nd DT campaign JET (DTE2) assess tools that are envisaged mitigate tritium inventory build-up ITER. The began 4 days baking 320 °C, followed by further which Ion Cyclotron Wall...
The goal of our ongoing research is to identify strengths and weaknesses high school level science fair improvements that can help educators make a more effective, inclusive equitable learning experience. In this paper, we confirm extend previous findings in several important ways. We added new questions anonymous voluntary surveys learn the extent which students had an interest or engineering careers if participation increased their engineering. And surveyed national rather than regional...
The goal of our research is to identify strengths and weaknesses high school level science fair improvements that might enhance learning outcomes based on empirical assessment student experiences. We use the web-based data collection program REDCap implement anonymous voluntary surveys about experiences with two independent groups—high students who recently competed in Dallas Regional Science Engineering Fair post (undergraduates, 1st year medical students, biomedical graduate students) STEM...
Research misconduct has become an important matter of concern in the scientific community. The extent to which such behavior occurs early science education received little attention. In current study, using web-based data collection program REDCap, we obtained responses anonymous and voluntary survey about fair from 65 high school students who recently competed Dallas Regional Science Engineering Fair 237 STEM-track, post-high (undergraduates, 1st year medical students, biomedical graduate...
In this paper, we report ethnicity trends in student participation and experience high school science engineering fair (SEFs). SEF showed significant ethnic diversity. For survey students, the approximate distribution was Asian-32%; Black-11%; Hispanic-20%; White-33%; Other-3%. Comparing level at which students competed from to district region state levels, observed that black made up only 4.5% of who participated beyond level, whereas other groups were more equally represented all levels....
We use the light-front Hamiltonian of transverse lattice gauge theory to compute from first principles glueball spectrum and wavefunctions in leading order 1/N_c colour expansion. find 0^{++}, 2^{++}, 1^{+-} glueballs having masses consistent with N_c=3 data available Euclidean path integral methods. The exhibit a constituent gluon structure.
The meson eigenstates of the light-cone Hamiltonian in a coarse transverse lattice gauge theory are investigated. Building upon previous work pure theory, and its Fock space expanded powers dynamical fields. In leading approximation, couplings appearing renormalized by demanding restoration space-time symmetries broken cutoff. Additional requirements from chiral symmetry discussed difficulties imposing them first principles approximation noted. A phenomenological calculation is then...
An outstanding goal of physics is to find solutions that describe hadrons in the theory strong interactions, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). For this goal, light-front Hamiltonian formulation QCD (LFQCD) a complementary approach well-established lattice gauge method. LFQCD offers access hadrons' nonperturbative quark and gluon amplitudes, which are directly testable experiments at existing future facilities. We present an overview promises challenges context unsolved issues require broadened...
