Small, compact genomes of ultrasmall unicellular algae provide information on the basic and essential genes that support lives photosynthetic eukaryotes, including higher plants1,2. Here we report 16,520,305-base-pair sequence 20 chromosomes red alga Cyanidioschyzon merolae 10D as first complete algal genome. We identified 5,331 in total, which at least 86.3% were expressed. Unique characteristics this genomic structure include: a lack introns all but 26 genes; only three copies ribosomal...
Abstract We studied the in vitro effect of testosterone on spontaneous immunoglobulin production by human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Testosterone inhibited IgG and IgM PBMC both from males females. The inhibitory was revealed at doses more than 1 nm, increased dose-dependently, reached a plateau 100 nm. At <1000 did not reduce cell viability. treatment reduced 59.0% that 61.3% compared with control. Immunoglobulin B also suppressed testosterone, though magnitude...

Ultraviolet (uv) radiation has profound effects on the immune system both in vitro and vivo. Recent studies, utilizing uv irradiation of intact animals, have focused suppressive effect generation allergic contact sensitization (ACS). To explore mechanism(s) by which affects ACS, we used a recently described technique sensitizing mice with subcutaneous (s.c.) injection haptenated epidermal cells. uv-treated or untreated mouse cells (EC) were conjugated 1 mM trinitrobenzene sulfonate injected...
Atovaquone, a coenzyme Q analogue has been indicated to specifically target the cytochrome bc1 complex of mitochondrial respiratory chain in malarial parasite and other protozoan. Various mutations quinone binding site b gene Plasmodium spp. such as M133I, L144S, L271V, K272R, Y268C, Y268S, Y268N, V284F are suggesting associate with resistance atovaquone. There is no direct evidence relation between atovaquone that available. Technical difficulties isolating active assayable mitochondria...
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic and relapsing inflammatory skin disease characterized by the predominant infiltration of T cells, eosinophils macrophages in lesional skin. Recently, eotaxin-2/CCL24 eotaxin-3/CCL26 were identified as CC chemokines that signal exclusively via CCR3 receptor have eosinophil-selective chemoattractant activity, does eotaxin/CCL11. We previously reported serum levels thymus activation-regulated chemokine (TARC)/CCL17 macrophage-derived (MDC)/CCL22 correlated...
Bullous pemphigoid (BP) often provokes blood and tissue eosinophilia, which suggests that some chemoattractants modulate the eosinophil infiltration in BP. Eotaxin, a CC chemokine, strongly attracts eosinophils, interleukin (IL)-5 induces differentiation, proliferation colony formation vitro. To examine correlation between levels of eotaxin IL-5 number lesional expression BP lesions. In this study we measured blister fluid by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. We also examined lesions...

To determine the prevalence and characterization of antibodies to endothelial cells in patients with SSc, serum samples from 80 20 systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), healthy control subjects were examined by ELISA using cultured human umbilical vein (HUVEC), indirect immunofluorescence analysis (IIF), immunoblotting cytoplasmic extract HUVEC. IgG and/or IgM isotype anti-endothelial cell (AECA) demonstrated 43 SSc (54%), 15 SLE (75%), none subjects. Immunofluorescence on HUVEC substrate...
Chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) is packed into discrete structures called chloroplast nucleoids (cp-nucleoids). The structure of cpDNA thought to be important for its maintenance and regulation. In bacteria mitochondria, histone-like proteins (such as HU Abf2, respectively) are abundant play roles in organization. However, a primary structural protein has yet found cp-nucleoids. Here, we identified an binding from isolated cp-nucleoids the primitive red alga Cyanidioschyzon merolae. purified had...
Objective. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a frequent cause of death in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). In this study, we examined the occurrence PH and investigated clinical laboratory features SSc PH. Methods. A cross‐sectional study 125 Japanese was conducted using Doppler echocardiography, other multiple cardiopulmonary tests, examination. Results. (systolic pressure >40 mmHg) diagnosed 20 (16%) by echocardiography. six who had secondary pulmonary (SPH), due to severe fibrosis; 14...
This is the first report of molecular characterization a novel cyclic nucleotide PDE (phosphodiesterase), isolated from human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum and designated PfPDE1. PfPDE1 cDNA encodes an 884-amino-acid protein, including six putative transmembrane domains in N-terminus followed by catalytic domain. The gene single-copy consisting two exons 170 bp intron. transcripts were abundant ring form asexual blood stages parasite. C-terminal domain PfPDE1, produced Escherichia...

BAFF [B-cell activating factor belonging to the tumour necrosis (TNF) family] is a member of TNF superfamily that regulates B-lymphocyte proliferation and survival. It has been demonstrated increased levels soluble are associated with systemic autoimmunity in patients lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis Sjögren's syndrome, animal models spontaneous autoimmune diseases. However, significance circulating bullous diseases unknown. To examine whether elevated blistering pemphigus vulgaris...
CD83 is a member of the Ig superfamily expressed primarily by mature dendritic cells (DCs). In mice, expression thymic stromal regulates CD4+ T cell development, with CD83−/− mice demonstrating dramatic reductions in both thymus and peripheral cells. this study, was also found to affect MHC class II antigen within periphery. deficiency reduced cell-surface 25–50% on splenic B DCs, epithelial peritoneal macrophages. Reduced stable intrinsic property that resulted from increased...
A neutron scattering study on Nd 2 CuO 4 , a mother material of the electron-doped superconductor (Nd 1- x Ce )CuO 4- y was carried out. Reentrant magnetic phase transitions associated with spin reorientation antiferromagnetic ordering were observed. La NiO -type order stabilized in range 80 K\({\lesssim}T{\lesssim}\)250 K and at \(T{\lesssim}40\) K. Between 40 K\({\lesssim}T{\lesssim}\)80 K, realized. Diffuse due to two-dimensional fluctuation also observed around T ≃250

Summary Background Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is an autoimmune blistering disease characterized by eosinophilia and high serum IgE levels. The accumulated evidence suggests that various cytokines are involved in the lesional skin of patients with BP. Recently, thymus activation‐regulated chemokine (TARC/CCL17), a CC chemokine, was identified as selective chemoattractant for receptor 4 (CCR4)‐expressing cells. Objective In this study, we examined involvement TARC Methods We determined fluid...

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is packed into highly organized structures called mitochondrial nucleoids (mt-nucleoids). To understand the organization of mtDNA and overall regulation its genetic activity within mt-nucleoids, we identified characterized a novel packaging protein, termed Glom (a protein inducing agglomeration chromosome), from condensed mt-nucleoids true slime mold, Physarum polycephalum. This could bind to entire package state in vitro. Immunostaining analysis showed that...
