Abstract Misinformation often continues to influence people’s memory and inferential reasoning after it has been retracted; this is known as the continued effect (CIE). Previous research investigating role of attitude‐based motivated in context found conflicting results: Some studies have that worldview can a strong impact on magnitude CIE, such retractions are less effective if misinformation congruent with person’s relevant attitudes, which case even backfire. Other failed find evidence...
With the advent of new media, more people are turning to social media share thoughts and emotions related personal life experiences. We examined salient concerns dementia caregivers on Twitter pre- post-pandemic, aiming shed light how better support engage post-COVID-19 pandemic. English tweets "dementia" "caregiver" were extracted between 1st January 2013 31st December 2022. A supervised deep learning model (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers, BERT) was trained select...
The aim of the study was to compare direct healthcare cost and outcomes a multidisciplinary care (MDC) program versus usual for patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Singapore. A retrospective an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) less than 20 mL/min/1.73 m2, attending MDC or clinic tertiary hospital from 2016 2019. group matched using propensity score matching based on age, gender, baseline eGFR, diabetes mellitus. primary outcome emergent long-term replacement...
Impaired awareness of hypoglycaemia (IAH) predisposes affected patients to severe hypoglycaemia. There are few data on prevalence IAH in adults with insulin-treated type 2 diabetes Asia. We aim ascertain the among an outpatient clinic a tertiary care centre Singapore.A total 374 attending referral Singapore were recruited over 4-month period. Participants completed questionnaire document baseline characteristics and assess their status, using combination Clarke, Gold Pedersen-Bjergaard...
Gold and Clarke questionnaire are originally developed to assess impaired awareness of hypoglycaemia (IAH) in type 1 diabetes. Present study examined the similarities differences between two questionnaires when administered insulin-treated 2 diabetes patients. A total 153 patients with mean age 61.0±9.4 years HbA1c 8.4±1.5% completed outpatient clinics tertiary-care hospital. Factor analysis was conducted examine psychometric properties questionnaire. Spearman's correlation used convergent...
To develop separate item banks for three health domains of health-related quality life (HRQOL) ranked as important by Singaporeans - physical functioning, social relationships, and positive mindset. We adapted the Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Qualitative Item Review protocol, with input endorsement from laymen experts various relevant fields. Items were generated 3 sources: 1) thematic analysis focus groups in-depth interviews framework (n = 134 participants)...
Severe hypoglycaemia carries considerable morbidity and potential mortality. We aim to elucidate the factors which were associated with a prolonged length of stay (LOS) among patients diabetes who admitted hospital severe hypoglycaemia. Three hundred four included in analysis, mean age 70.6 ± 11.3 years, glycated haemoglobin 6.9 1.3% median LOS 3 days. Patients >3 days had significantly higher Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) (4.9 2.1 vs 4.1 2.1, P < 0.01), lower glomerular filtration rate...
Aim To implement an inpatient glucose management (IGM) programme in the general medical wards and evaluate its clinical efficacy. Method Consecutive patients admitted to selected over a 12-month period were included IGM programme. All with ≥3 capillary blood (CBG) readings (>10.0 mmol/L and/or <4.0 mmol/L) 24-hour identified electronically. A multidisciplinary team of diabetes care providers would provide specialist input these patients. The control group comprised consecutive preceding 12...
Little is known about the 1-year short-term mortality rate following hospital admissions with severe hypoglycemia. This study aimed to determine factors associated increased hospitalization in diabetes patients admitted hypoglycemia Singapore General Hospital.Clinical, biochemical, and data from who were year 2014 extracted institutional medical records. Patients passed away during episode of excluded analysis. The clinical biochemical between survived those did not survive within 1...

Abstract Background With the advent of new media, more people – possibly including caregivers persons with dementia are turning to social media platforms share their thoughts and emotions related personal life experiences. This may potentially serve as an opportunity leverage on gain insights into key issues faced by caregivers. We examined salient concerns through Twitter posts, aiming shed light how better support engage such Method English tweets “dementia” “caregiver” (or terms...
BACKGROUND: Individuals with diabetes mellitus (DM) may be susceptible to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) but data on NSAID-related adverse renal events is sparse. OBJECTIVE: We aimed evaluate the risk of and/or hyperkalemia after systemic NSAID among individuals DM and diabetic chronic disease (CKD). METHODS: Retrospective cohort study 3896 adults incident prescriptions between July 2015 December 2017 from Singapore General Hospital SingHealth...
Abstract Aim We aim to compare the burden of Level 1 (<4 mmol/L) and 2 (<3 hypoglycaemia between type diabetes (T2D) patients with without chronic kidney disease (CKD). Methods T2D subjects CKD (eGFR<60 mL/min/1.73 m ) were recruited from a tertiary‐care hospital. Subjects wore Freestyle Libre‐Pro sensor for weeks. The number hypoglycaemic events intra‐day difference in hypoglycaemias compared cohorts. Results 134 subjects: 74 (44 M:30F) 60 (36 M:24F), no HbA1c two cohorts (66 ± 20...
We aim to compare and correlate Gold Clarke questionnaire scores with hypoglycaemic symptomatic responses between insulin-treated type 2 diabetes participants without IAH in a real-life study.Insulin-treated attending an outpatient clinic Singapore were asked complete the questionnaires, record capillary blood glucose (CBG) symptoms for 4 weeks.Data collected from 153 (M:F = 98:55) mean age 61.0 ± 9.4 years, duration of 19.5 8.8 years HbA1c 68 17 mmol/mol (8.4 1.5%). methods classified 19.6%...
Hypoglycaemia leads to significant morbidity and impacts negatively on quality-of-life, especially in elderly people with increased frailty. The aims of this study were determine the prevalence low interstitial fluid glucose (IFG) patients tightly controlled type 2 diabetes (T2D), evaluate whether there differences burden IFG between sulphonylurea insulin treated groups.A Freestyle Libre-Pro sensor was used for sampling continuously. Patients blinded levels. returned investigators after a...
Background: Inpatients hypoglycemia has adverse impacts on patient outcomes and healthcare resources use. While recurrent is largely preventable, limited studies were done within the Asia-Pacific context. We sought to determine whether temporal distributions of exist between insulin and/or sulfonylureas (SU) treated patients identify predictors at a tertiary medical center in Singapore. Methods: analyzed data 420 hypoglycemic episodes (capillary blood glucose (CBG) ≤ 70mg/dL) 207 diabetes...
Background: Elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are at high risk of severe hypoglycemia, but evidence addressing this problem is lacking. Aims: To assess and compare the burden exposure to low interstitial fluid glucose (IFG) in elderly subjects tightly controlled T2DM on sulphonylurea (SU) or insulin therapy. Methods: Outpatient ≥65 years age HbA1c ≤7.5% were recruited wear a Freestyle Libre-Pro sensor for weeks. Collected data was analyzed IFG burden. Results: A total 65...
